I grew up dancing my heart out at Bostock Band concerts—a band of siblings who’ve been jamming since childhood. Some of you might remember Swirled Whale. What I didn’t know back then was just how wild the eldest of the six, Blane Bostock’s, full mosaic really was.

This is a long episode—and for good reason. When you die, leave your body, and experience a place without time or space, linear storytelling kind of goes out the window. Blane says he chose, even before this life began, to experience the extremes: the highest highs and the lowest lows. And boy, did he live it.

Blane describes his life as a mosaic—individual pieces that only make sense once you step back and see the whole. In this episode, we do exactly that.

In Part 1 we follow Blane’s life before his near-death experience at 21, then life after. Along the way, he clues us in on what it was like being a prodigy musician—living the dream at 16, playing with the greats—before later seeking darker experiences to round out his identity, and how a heart attack (his NDE) freed him from a cult. After returning from the other side, he reflects on his 25-year career as a flamenco guitarist, premonitions, cancer, car wrecks, train crashes, and even Tom Jones at the crab shack.

In Part 2, we dive deep into the NDE itself—crossing the great divide, encountering angels, meeting “the light,” and navigating the strange and sacred aftermath. Along the way, we touch on TBIs and PTSD, getting saved by a serial killer, exchanging animal noises with Prince at a Purple Rain concert, being accused of murder, and ending with a serenade on his handmade 1960 Paco de Lucía–inspired guitar.

Blane died—and he chose to come back.

He leaves us with a clear message:

Do not fear death.
