Yesterday we mentioned many thieves of presence such as fear, anxiety, guilt and regret, to name a few.
This week is a focus on being more specific about the things that steal our ability to be present and live our lives to the fullest.
Forgiveness is the power to free ourselves from the suffering our minds inflict on us and keep us from being able to focus on being present.
Today we focus on Unmet Expectations. This is the gray area in the vicinity of a promise. Unmet expectations are more vague than a broken promise, but can still cause trauma.
Ruminating thoughts, did we have any right to expect anything at all? It was not a promise after all, it was just something we expected. We can ask ourselves, what were our expectations?
Unmet expectations can take away trust just as a broken promise but should they. The biggest problem with unmet expectations is they are hard to define. Did we communicate our expectations?
When we better understand the root of our expectations which are most likely our values, we can learn why we feel betrayed.
Learning about our disappointments and values we can better understand ourselves and communicate our expectations to others to limit our disappointment. Just like a broken promise causes loss of trust, so too can unmet expectations. However, if we learn that unmet expectations may be limited to one event, and are not a cause for loss of trust in all occurrences.
