43.2. Hash It Out: Discussing Meditation with Ashley Wray

Listen Later

Today’s question for Ashley: How do you teach Meditation?
When I started my business I knew nothing about meditation. I feel it needs to be approached with the idea that not all meditation is the same. There is not a right or wrong way to meditate.
I like to start out by having someone visualize a bicycle wheel. The hub in the center will be your focal point. This could be your breath, your mantra and especially affirmation based mantras. Stay there for sixty seconds and inevitably your mind starts to wander. This is the area where the spokes are between the hub and the tire. The tire is where you realize, I meant to be meditating right now. You can then judge yourself or refocus and come back to the hub, your focal point.
The purpose of Meditation is not the idea of not having any thoughts. Your mind will stray, but how you regain your focus on the hub is crucial. Do you come back with love, compassion and understanding or do you come back with judgment?
Regaining your focus with self love and self compassion when the thoughts come in is the key. This is a personal experience. The way you meditate is not going to be the same as others, and that is okay.
