We have discussed Active Listening within our relationships but today’s focus is on Active Listening with strangers. This is all about engaging the world around us in a more positive and intentional way.
Actively engage by asking and listening to strangers. First, not all attempts will not be successful. This however, does not mean we should not try. Think of the ripple effect like the pebble in the puddle. Showing a stranger kindness may very well help a stranger shake the defenses loose and help them to engage again.
Say hello to someone, ask how they are doing and listen to their answer. Intentionally make eye contact and listen, reiterate their responses to let them know you hear them.
When it is time to say goodbye, thank them for their time and let them know how much you appreciated the connection.
