Welcome back to Iron Sights! In this episode, I brought Caleb Disney and Jeff Chenault back into the studio to discuss perceived exertion and the RPE & RIR scales. We begin the episode by talking about the benefits of how using these scales during exercise can be a great way to gauge how hard you should be pushing yourself in the gym. Here's the problem: for novice and intermediate lifters there are OTHER things to focus on with regards to your training that are far more important than fine-tuning intensity. Using RIR & RPE in your programming could be a poor way to leverage intensity for muscle growth and adaptation. After listening to this episode you will understand the why behind RPE & RIR as well as be able to implement intensity the right way through following a strategic program designed for maximal RESULTS specific to your goals.
