Today’s Listener Question: How do I cope? I need energy for work, family and myself, but my mom needs so much help.Answer: You have to build in the practice of self compassion. Consider this as self kindness and not self judgment. Second, Common Humanity versus Isolation. Recognizing that you are not alone and anybody would struggle. Do not fall to isolation. Third, is mindfulness, not over identification.
Try accepting help. This can be difficult because you feel you have to take on all of the caregiver responsibilities. Try asking for help in other areas to free yourself from all of the tasks you do.Think about what you can realistically provide. Consider how much time you have and make a list to find help in other areas.
