It is important to acknowledge that many people suffer from anxiety in silence. The fear of shame and judgment causes many to never open up about their feelings and experiences. Remember that you are not alone. Over ninety percent of Americans experience the anxiety of Intrusive Thoughts. The feeling of swerving into oncoming traffic, leaving an appliance on to cause damage to a home are examples of Intrusive Thought Anxiety.
The fear of potential consequences from these thoughts can be difficult to overcome. Thought suppression can also have a boomerang effect. Understanding these thoughts and examining these thoughts not suppression is the start to alleviating this type of anxiety.
As always getting help from a professional therapist is the best way to learn and understand what you or a loved one is experiencing is the best course of action.
