In this episode, I am sharing some thoughts about authenticity and how it is connected with our ability to let ourselves be disliked. This is a tough one as so many of us have struggled with pleasing people, wanting to be liked, not wanting to rock the boat or upset others. We may struggle to be authentic due to lack of self-esteem, fear of judgment by others, and a strong desire for others to like us.
In today’s episode we discuss:
1) A “people pleaser” personality means a person feels a strong urge to please others, even at their own expense. They may feel that their wants and needs do not matter or alter their personality around others. People-pleasing prioritizes the needs of others at the expense of your own, while kindness requires giving equal consideration to the needs of others and to your own. 2) Authenticity means you're true to your own personality, values, and spirit, regardless of the pressure that you're under to act otherwise. When you recognize that you’re ok with being disliked, then you will allow yourself more space or leeway to be authentic with yourself and with others.
