70.1. Hash It Out: My Partner Refuses to go to Couples Therapy

Couples therapy can be scary and can be even scarier to make the suggestion. Here are some tips to broaching the topic with your partner.

  1. Make sure you're picking the right time to make the suggestion.
  2. Talk about it from an "I" and "We" perspective other than a "YOU" perspective.
  3. Be willing to hear the pushback, let your partner have their feelings.
  4. Clarify there aren't monsters hiding in the therapy room.
  5. Be flexible, but have your boundaries - especially if it's a non-negotiable.
