A massive proposed development could transform more than 550 acres of largely untouched land in the city of Concord, but it’s far from a done deal.
D.R. Horton has submitted plans for “Concord Farms,” a large-scale, mixed-use community slated for the area along George W. Liles Parkway and Weddington Road.

Duke Energy Carolinas wants to raise monthly electric bills $10.38 for residential customers in South Carolina starting March 2026.
Duke Energy requested the rate hike because it wants a 7.7% increase in annual revenue, about $150.5 million, to support investments in power grids, improve storm readiness and enhance its generating fleet.
Residential customers would see the highest price hike. The ten dollar increase equals an approximate 7% increase in monthly bills. Commercial and industrial customers will see an increase of about 5.4% and 5.2% respectively.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is issuing a warning to residents and visitors after a recent surge in cell phone thefts in South End. According to CMPD, thieves are targeting patrons at popular bars, restaurants, and outdoor patios — especially during peak evening hours.
Police say the thefts happen in an instant, often without the victim realizing it until it’s too late. Phones are being snatched from back pockets, open purses, and even directly from people’s hands.

U.S. Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) announced Sunday he will not seek reelection, just one day after President Donald Trump launched an attack on him via Truth Social, accusing the senator of betraying conservative values and failing North Carolina.
In a fiery post, Trump accused Tillis of supporting a “68% Tax Increase,” undermining the tobacco industry, and backing costly energy projects. He also criticized Tillis for being “MISSING IN ACTION” during recent floods in North Carolina and for failing to support what Trump called the “big beautiful bill.”

Construction at the controversial Silfab Solar facility in York County is on pause after investigators toured the facility and found employees who aren't permitted for the ongoing project.
York County says that's a workplace violation.
Separately, the Silfab facility has drawn neighborhood backlash from concerned residents. Some folks living in the area say they're worried about air pollution and contaminants from the manufacturing process. Silfab has repeatedly said it meets all safety guidelines.
The controversy centers on community fears about chemicals used in solar panel manufacturing, particularly silane gas, which residents worry could pose risks to nearby schools and neighborhoods. Some families have already relocated rather than send their children to the new school.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools leaders approved major updates to how the district will support students experiencing homelessness and those in foster care.
Some students carry more than just a backpack to school. They also carry questions and concerns about where they’ll sleep. Now CMS is stepping in, making modifications and creating new policies for students facing difficult circumstances.
Some of the policies promise to be a steady hand for children navigating homelessness and foster care.
The polices stress the importance of immediate enrollment and providing transportation without delay, even if they don’t have records like immunizations, proof of residency or previous school transcripts.
