In a year marked by rising public concerns about teen violence and a recent string of crimes in Uptown Charlotte, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) is set to deliver its 2025 Mid-Year Public Safety Report Thursday at 10:30 a.m. from the Command Center of the Law Enforcement Center in Uptown.
While city residents continue to seek answers and solutions to recent incidents involving youth violence and brazen acts near Charlotte’s business and entertainment districts, CMPD officials point to encouraging trends in the first quarter of the year — particularly a significant drop in violent crime.

Major changes are coming to Interstate 77 in Mooresville as crews begin construction on a massive 10-lane bridge as part of the North Carolina 150 widening project.
Starting at 8 p.m. on Monday, July 14, the right lane on both sides of I-77 at Exit 36 will permanently close for crews to start the first phase of widening the bridge to 10 lanes on N.C. 150. There will also be nightly closures as needed for workspace.
For folks who travel on 150 in Mooresville, traffic is nothing new.
This is one of several traffic projects in the Mooresville area aimed at relieving congestion that's plagued the Lake Norman town for decades. Unfortunately for Mooresville residents, that congestion may get worse before it gets better.

The Monroe City Council will hold a meeting Tuesday at 4 p.m. to discuss a proposed vote of no-confidence against Mayor Robert Burns.
According to the official meeting agenda, the no-confidence discussion is based on several concerns. Among these concerns, Burns' "continued use of the City’s logo and City address to communicate personal views on topics not related to local governance and repeated failure to preside over meetings in an orderly and civil manner."
The agenda also cites the mayor's "failure to communicate with all of City Council regarding House Bill 3."
