Former President Donald Trump is visiting Charlotte on Wednesday for a campaign rally. It comes just one day after the director of the Secret Service resigned in the aftermath of the assassination attempt against Trump.
Last Thursday, the last night of the Republican National Convention, Trump formally accepted the Republican nomination for president and gave a lengthy speech, the longest speech any presidential nominee has given at a party convention. On the heels of the RNC, Trump is hoping to keep up the momentum that came out of the days-long event.

President Joe Biden's decision to drop his 2024 reelection bid comes at a difficult time for the Democratic party, and leaves an open question about who will replace him less than four months before the election.
For weeks, many Democrats had been pushing Biden to exit the race. But as the pressure mounted, so did questions about how the Democratic party would move forward without the de facto nominee.

With short supply and eroded savings, buying a home continues to stay out of reach for many Americans.
"It leaves you feeling stressed and hopeless," Charlotte resident Lapri Holmes said. "To find affordable housing in Charlotte is slim to none."
Holmes knows all too well the challenge of buying a home before she was given a brand-new home from Habitat from Humanity of the Charlotte Region last October. Owning a home is a reality that officials are working to help other families attain too, with Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region and Habitat for Humanity of Gaston County merging.

Raphael Wright, the man charged with raping and killing a woman in northwest Charlotte in June, saw his bond raised when he appeared in court Tuesday afternoon.
Judge Reggie McKnight agreed with the prosecution's argument that Wright shouldn't be allowed to be free during the trial, raising his total bond on both rape and murder charges to $850,000 total. Wright's defense attorney tried to argue he wasn't a flight risk and that he shot the woman in self-defense, claiming she tried to rob him.
A woman who was identified as the victim's grandmother lambasted the initial $50,000 bond during her own appearance, and said she was afraid because she didn't know what Wright's intentions were for someone else.
Tuesday's hearing comes as new court documents obtained by WCNC Charlotte revealed more about what investigators say happened the night of the crime.

York County officials have meetings scheduled for July 16 and July 18 to discuss expanding the county's transit system.
The director of RFATS in York County, David Hooper, said with the growth the area has seen, the conversation of expanding roadways and transit was inevitable.
“This area is growing," Hooper told WCNC Charlotte. "We have a lot of new people coming into the area, businesses coming into the area and there are changes as a result. We’re going to be looking at levels of traffic congestion, system reliability, and how we make that work in York County and North Carolina."
