Alexis Fairbanks is a runner, teacher, and one of my co-founders of Lane 9 Project. As a collegiate athlete, she struggled not only with disordered eating, but also with acknowledging that her relationship with food, and her body, was disordered. She suffered from stress fractures, decline in performance, and decreasing self confidence. Now, in her recovery from both disordered eating and hypothalamic amenorrhea (HA), she's working hard to help other women get the help they need.
We talk about how she finally recognized and acknowledged her eating disorder, how she's let go of her food rules, why we started Lane 9 Project, and what inspired her to write about her story on Runner's World.
We also talk about how she's faster, stronger, and much healthier as a runner now, and what that means to her. (Spoiler: She has qualified for Boston AT Boston, so, there's that.)
If you're struggling with hypothalamic amenorrhea, consider joining me and Kelly Jones MS RD CSSD for our newest Fit Fueling course, focused on HA recovery. It starts September 10th. Register here!
