Diagnosed with endometriosis at age 19, Marche was told she would probably never have babies. It was the early 2000s, post women’s liberation and even when Marche found herself expectedly pregnant she considered termination. Before she could decide what she wanted to do, Marche was incorrectly diagnosed with a blighted ovum, and told she’d miscarry. About to start grad school and ridden with grief, Marche took abortifacients, only to find out the day after that she’d been incorrectly diagnosed.

A thorough look into Marche’s health history and the ways she was victimized by the medical industry, sets the backdrop for how she became the perfect consumer of the fertility industry.

Marche details the dehumanization she experienced during the IUI/IVF process, the tens of thousands of dollars down the drain, the evisceration of love between she and her husband during this time, and how she ultimately shifted her perspective from seeing her attempt to rent her best friend’s womb as camaraderie, to the unjustifiable utilization and commodification of women’s bodies.
