Long time cannabis activist and advocate Loretta Clark joins us this week to talk about the history of her activism, weed rights in Canada and also has Walter read a passage from her “stoner play/colouring book”. A play which, if she has her way, will soon be performed at a weed salon once Canada has legalized marijuana consumption!
Enjoy the show!
I would recommend taking a look at Salon Section 7’s Facebook Page if you are interested in the events that Loretta and her associates are planning.

This one makes me think of Justice for some reason. Maybe with a hint of Battlestar Galactaca. Like a French new wave synth sci fi epic. The original one, though. Where the future looks an awful lot like the 70s.
Years ago I noticed a button that said “album cover” in our .mp3 compressing software and I thought to myself, hey, if we get ole Scotto to format the file right maybe people will get his art delivered to them on their iPhones. Tragically, this has never actually worked. I do fill that box in though, so somewhere in the tubes there’s the unique podcast cover page. Invisible to you. Visible to the AlphaBet.
Really though, it’s out there hundreds of times. Possibly thousands. I mean, just getting these letters typed on the screen the actual data has been copied into 6 or 7 separate physical locations just on my PC. Getting this text then into the cloud will take a dozen separate machines each with its own network card/network cache/ram/cache/register/hd ritual of processing before the data has been manipulated and passed on to the next spot in the chain. Then it’s in the cloud. It’s be copied over and over into who knows how many boxes out there. Again, remember, each time there are multiple separate physical locations with a new logical arrangement.
If I was the sort of person for whom the notion of cosmic mantra held any weight, this all might concern me. I mean, I’m about to do it, holy shit, here we go:
Hastur
If you’re reading this, it’s happened already. I typed the word, it was copied 6 times to get onto my screen and another 60 to get to the cloud, and then 600 more to all the people who download this text. Him Who Is Not To Be Named has just been.
Anyway, AlphaBet is getting that cosmic ripple injection but of Scott’s episode covers that nobody else ever sees. Probably will have somewhat less influence than technocthulic ritual mind you.

Ladyfest kicked off this past Monday but there are a TON of shows coming up this coming Thursday, Friday, Saturday and even Sunday (you should really check out the full lineup here). Deirdre Trudeau and Sara Meleika are some of the talented women putting this amazing celebration of women (and allies) and general hilarity! We talk about a lot of the problems that face women in comedy and women in general. For instance, we spend a good chunk of this podcast trying to figure out what high-school required reading books actually feature a strong female protagonist. Also this show is (obviously) hilarious. Listen now and be sure to check out Ladyfest this weekend all over the city!

You work from home long enough you have to start amusing yourself in novel ways. I watch the squirrels who hang out in my backyard. There was this one squirrel, he’d hang out in the Y of a branch that kind of stuck out in space. Maybe he was cooling his balls. I called him David Bowie because he’d hang out in space.
David Bowie disappeared. Cat or truck or bird, probably.
I liked to imagine that he’d think of us, sitting on his branch. I’m not sure such a thing is possible. Squirrels have black eyes. They don’t communicate intention with their eyes. You look at a squirrel’s eyes trying to get into understanding his motivation and he is completely incapable of communicating on that level. From the squirrel’s perspective we are Lovecraftian Gods, obviously.
I really miss that squirrel. No other squirrel has moved into his territory so the backyard is kind of boring these days.

Yannick Belzil, one of the hosts of the immensely popular French-language podcast “3 Bières” joins this immensely popular English podcast to talk about the build towards episode 350 of his show and the live shows he’s been doing across the province. While that is all true, we also get really, really weird in this one, including a pitch for probably the grossest podcast you will hopefully never hear, eating pennies and what kind of people form boy bands. We promised back on Episode 150 that we’d do a full episode with Yannick and now here we are. Look at us, keeping promises.
We’re all great at podcasting so you know this is a great podcast.
The best way of course to keep up to date with Yannick and the 3 Bières podcast is the check out their official website 3bieres.com and then just go ahead and subscribe to them on every possible platform. That’s how its done kids.

It’s over! As 45,000 people found their way out of Osheaga yesterday (while being reminded they could buy Perrier Platinum Passes for next year and that there was a surprise waiting for them at the National Bank water stations) I am sure that almost all of them were already thinking about making sure they were free the weekend of August 2nd, 3rd and 4th in 2019.
Oh, and scroll to the bottom to check out our photo albums from all 3 days!
Sarah and I made the most of each day and while we did check out plenty of bands that we talked about in our preview episodes (if you haven’t already check them out: Friday, Saturday and Sunday) there were a few surprises.
So if you are missing Osheaga already feel free to listen to this wrap-up podcast where we relive as much of the last 3 days as possible in 45 minutes for your listening pleasure.
Enjoy the show!

I rewatched The Raid. Haha that baby-faced dude kicks the hell out of so many guys. There’s a certain amount of theatricality that is easy to appreciate in a foreign film. I think the medium is unique in that by not understanding the words they say, we apply to the tone quality delivery of the lines we read. A linguistic get out of jail free card. What a relentless movie.
Anyway, action movies are best for working out. Something about having random violence on the screen while on my bike keeps me energized in a way that no other genre can. It’s like the action triggers a threat mechanism somehow. Real talk try working out to Haute Tension.
Wait don’t that might be a bit much.

Osheaga is right around the corner and John Jacob Magistery is one of the local bands you should really be on the lookout for this weekend. If you’ve never had the privilege of seeing Johnny Griffin and company take to the stage for a live performance do yourself a favor and make your way over to the “Green Stage” at 1:30 pm on Saturday.
Johnny talks a little about his family, what’s in his briefcase and the intrinsic value of being an individual. All this and more. Enjoy the show!
There are still some single day passes available for Friday and Saturday, check out osheaga.com for full lineup. John Jacob Magistery plays at 1:30 at “Scene Verte” on Saturday.
Keep up to date with John Jacob Magistery on Facebook.
