  • Deena Mansour, Germaine White & Heidi Wallace do the work
Today we bring you three amazing and important voices – Deena Mansour and Germaine White from the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Center at the University of Montana as well as Heidi Wallace from EmpowerMT.

These three women are doing important work to promote diversity and inclusion and to build a more just society. It was an honor to speak with them and learn more about their work and experiences. This was a deeply moving conversation.

  • Dr. Tobin Miller Shearer is hopeful
Today we bring you Tobin Miller Shearer, Professor of History and Director of the African American Studies Program at the University of Montana. We recorded this conversation in early May, before the murder of George Floyd and associated demonstrations. That conversation covers several important topics, including anti-racism, race as a biological and social construction, and the reasons why UM is the perhaps unlikely home to such a strong African American Studies program. Tobin also speaks eloquently and passionately about his journey as a white man in this space.

  • Regenerative Agriculture with Malou Anderson-Ramirez & Lara Birkes
Malou Anderson-Ramirez and her family are doing some bold, controversial and inspiring things on their ranch in Montana’s Tom Miner Basin, using technology in ways to make their operation more sustainable and more integrated with the natural system in which they live. Malou is joined by A New Angle alumna Lara Birkes, who helps us understand what’s happening in regenerative ag through the lens of rural entrepreneurship. You might recall that Lara referenced Malou’s family ranch on several occasions during our first pod, so it was great to get these two together for a dynamic conversation.

  • Dr. Rob Davies talks climate
In case you forgot, we’re facing a few other big, multi-dimensional challenges that require coordination across myriad aspects of a global society. Climate change is one such challenge and when Utah State University Professor Rob Davies visited Missoula to keynote Climate Smart Missoula’s Big Climate Event, we jumped at the chance to get some time with him. Rob is not only a top flight scientist, he’s also a gifted and passionate science communicator. Climate conversations often leave us feeling helpless but Rob’s view is much more hopeful. Not because the problem is small, but rather because we have not yet even begun to take it seriously.
