The Liberal and National party leaders are expected to announce a reunification deal today.

The Coalition split after three National senators broke away from shadow cabinet and voted against the government's hate groups bill, and were then fired from the front bench.

The anticipated compromise would allow the fired senators to return to the front bench after a short suspension.

Coastal communities in Western Australia's Pilbara region have been warned to stay indoors as severe Tropical Cyclone Mitchell tracks along the coast.

Heavy rainfall and very destructive wind gusts are expected as the system moves south west.

The Bureau of Meteorology's Angus Hines says it's possible the system could continue to intensify ahead of making landfall somewhere between Onslow and Exmouth later today or tonight.

Jewish community leaders have condemned a derogatory slur spray-painted on federal MP Andrew Hastie's electorate office in Western Australia.

Staff arrived to find the words 'traitor goy' spray-painted on the front of his Mandurah electorate office on Friday.

'Goy' is sometimes used as a derogatory term for a non-Jewish person deemed too supportive of Jewish people.

A man has died at a rave party in Sydney's west.

Police say several people suffered medical episodes at the 'Dreamstate" trance event at Sydney Olympic Park around 11.30pm last night.

Six other people were taken to hospital where one remains in a critical condition.

A crime scene has been established, and police commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.--

The United States says it will impose secondary tariffs on any nation trading with Iran as of today, as well as new sanctions to curb Iranian oil exports.The moves come following the second day of indirect talks between U-S and Iranian officials in Oman amid heightened tensions following Iran's bloody crackdown on anti-government protests last month.Meanwhile Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet with U-S President Donald Trump in Washington this week to discuss the recent talks with Iran.Mr Netanyahu’s office says that the Prime Minister believes all negotiations must include limiting the ballistic missiles and ending support for the Iranian axis.--

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says the U-S wants the war with Russia to end by June.He says both sides have been invited to the U-S for talks next week and he's confirmed a Ukrainian delegation will attend, adding that they're likely to occur in Miami.There's been no immediate comment from Washington or Moscow--Australia's Laura Peel is still hopeful of competing in the women's aerials at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, despite a knee injury sustained in training.The former aerial skiing world champion has travelled to Livigno in the hope she will still be able to compete in the event in 10 days time. Her injury has been described as 'significant' and the now four-time Olympian will have to pass a medical check before being allowed to compete.

The wreckage of a light plane which crashed into the ocean off South Australia's Fleurieu Peninsula coast has been recovered.

The pilot, a 57-year-old Morphett Vale man, and two passengers, an 18-year-old Freeling man and a 19-year-old from Adelaide, all died when the single-engine plane crashed in the Long Bay area yesterday afternoon.

The Transport Safety Bureau says it's investigating the cause.

The New South Wales government has activated special powers related to major events, ahead of a visit by Israeli President Isaac Herzog next week.

Under the state's Major Events Act, police will have additional powers to separate and move on crowds across Sydney's CBD and eastern suburbs.

Last week, police commissioner Mal Lanyon extended protest restrictions which will affect a planned protest against the visit on Monday night.  

He says there'll be a massive policing presence.

Communities along WA's north west coast are preparing as Tropical Cyclone Mitchell continues its path towards shore.

The Category 2 system could strengthen to Category 3 level this afternoon, and currently sits around 150-kilometres north of Port Hedland.

Mitchell is tipped to cross the coast on Sunday near the small town of Onslow.
