ACOFAE Podcast Presents: Shatter Me: Defy, Imagine, and Believe Me: "Justice for Aaron Warner."

No one can say that ACOFAE doesn't finish what they start (?), because Laura Marie and Jessica Marie are at the end of the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi and thoughts aew abound. Aaron is stressed, Kenji is being stressful, and the world is ending. Rescue missions, the dead returning, test tubes, and photographs are all key plot points that result in a miscommunication trope that almost takes out Laura Marie. Join ACOFAE as they reflect and discuss on loving and defending ANOTHER blond man. Never say never.

CW/TW: death of a sibling, torture

ACOFAE Podcast Presents: Idiocracy: "It's got what plants crave!"

Continuing the theme of October time travel, ACOFAE jumps into the future with the satirical classic "Idiocracy." 500 years into the future and society has kind of fallen apart. Plants aren't growing, healthcare is somehow worse than it is currently, and it's up to Joe and Rita to solve the problems for everyone. Once the most average people of their time and now the smartest on the planet, Joe and Rita have one week to turn things around or else..Filled with sight gags and astronomical performances, "Idiocracy" might seem a bit too on the nose now but when it came out this was comedy. We promise.

"The thirst mutilator."

TW / CW: political satire

Spoilers: Idiocracy

Mentions: The Ugly Truth, King of the Hill, Twilight, Project Hail Mary, Jackass, Wolverine, Oppenheimer

ACOFAE Podcast Presents: Laura's Genre: Nefertiti by Michelle Moran: "History can be so f*cking cool!"

It's Laura Maries half birthday! If you've been with ACOFAE for a while then you know that Laura Marie's OG favorite genre is Historical Fiction and that her childhood hyper-fixation was ancient Egypt. So it shouldn't surprise anyone that Nefertiti is her choice this year! Set in 1351 BCE, before the Prince of Egypt and "river ohhh river", there was Nefertiti at 15 becoming Chief Wife to the Crown Prince of the richest and most powerful nation in the world. You might think that would be enough, but its never enough for Akhenaten, who has plans and dreams of his own that extend far beyond Thebes and Memphis. Nefertiti is the story of a young woman, her sister, her family, and the control it takes to run a nation, from behind the back of it's Pharaoh. Sometimes real life is stranger than fiction.

TW / CW: miscarriages, abortion, plague

Spoilers: History from 1300s BCE, slight ACOWAR spoilers.

ACOFAE Podcast Presents: The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood.

As the United States ramps up Election season, ACOFAE reflects on the past - to 1985 specifically with Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale. As ACOFAE's first speculative fiction novel, Laura Marie and Jessica Marie discuss the genre, the message, and the ending of this book that left Laura Marie speechless when she first read it. Conversations abound about the issue that arises when the visual media overtakes the source material and what happens when fandom conversations superimpose themselves on the actual content. The Handmaid's Tale is not an easy read but it is an important one that ends with notes of change and reflection, if not joy. If we don't study the past we will repeat it. Right? RIGHT?!

Laura Marie's audio is a bit wonky, Sam is annoyed about it

Spoilers: The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood, slight spoilers from the ACOTAR series, including ACOSF (A Court of Silver Flames)
