  • If you can get through this, you can get through anything. A lesson on resilience and positivity with Rachel Liverman
Today's episode is with Rachel Liverman the founder of Glowbar, a no fluff facial spa that offers 30 minute customizable facials at $65 dollars. This is Rachel's second time on the podcast and I invited her back because she, like the most of us, has REALLY been tested when it comes to her business. Glowbar had only been open for 9 months before having to shut down due to the pandemic. Her business was entirely closed for 6 months since facials were deemed "phase-less" in New York and still found a way to pivot quickly, work on the foundation of her business and just last week she opened her second location now that facials are finally allowed in NY again and I just knew I had to have her on to talk about resilience and what this experience has taught her.

On this episode I'm talking to her about the rollercoaster that was these 6 months, how she continued to stay so positive, the biggest learnings she's taken during this time, how she rallied her community to get Governor Cuomo's attention when he was ignoring the spa industry as a whole and of course, I ask her if her active ingredient has changed at all since the last time we spoke.

  • Building a hopeful future and freeing the ocean with Mimi Ausland
Mimi Ausland is the founder of Free the Ocean, a website that gives anyone anywhere the opportunity to have a daily impact on the issue of plastic pollution. The way it works is by simply going to FreetheOcean.com and answering the daily trivia question. Just by doing that you fund the removal of 1 piece of plastic from the ocean and coastlines. Free the Ocean works with Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii, and together they have helped remove over 8.5 million pieces of plastic! They now have 30k+ unique daily visitors and people playing from over 160 countries.

Mimi actually started her first passion project at age 12 with a very similar model to Free the Ocean but her mission at the time was to feed animals so she started a website called FreeKibble.com that went viral and was featured on Ellen, Oprah and the Today Show. She then went on to college where she thought she wanted to pursue psychology but instead was confronted with the harsh reality of what our oceans are facing and decided to change paths and create Free the Ocean with the goal of not only cleaning up our oceans but really to work towards a hopeful future.

On today’s episode we talk about Mimi’s journey, she walks us through how she identified her need of creating and giving back, her first steps into creating Free the People, she gives us so many great insights into what is happening with our oceans and easy takeaways that we can all implement into our daily lives to reduce plastic consumption and why paying attention to what moves you is the best indicator in figuring out your Active Ingredient.
