First Fruits

This Sunday, Greg Pinkner, continues our series on the Book of Acts. In Acts 2, we see the birth of the church as the Holy Spirit descends during Pentecost, marked by the mighty rushing wind and tongues of fire resting on each believer, symbolizing God's covenantal presence and action. This event is a reversal of the Tower of Babel, uniting people from different nations by enabling the apostles to speak in various tongues, allowing everyone to hear the gospel in their own language. The fire signifies God's presence, holiness, and purification, echoing His appearances throughout the Old Testament, from Moses' burning bush to the fire on Mount Sinai. Believers are now the temple of God, carrying His presence into the world, signifying a new covenant where the Spirit dwells within His people. This moment establishes the church as one people under one Lord, fulfilling God’s redemptive plan and gathering the first fruits of His Kingdom.
