Brian Wisda, musician and creator of ADHD Lullaby, is a father who became very curious when he noticed that playing random notes on his guitar caused his son with ADHD to sleep, which was a struggle in his home.
I'm grateful to have had this conversation, as I learned so much about sleep. It was very interesting to understand how the album and its songs are sequential and very intentional in their order.
“ You have to understand what the brain does when it takes in information. And it processes something through, what's known as an OODA loop, which stands for observe, orient, and decide”
– Bryan Wisda
Some topics that were discussed include:

Esther Nagle- Breathing as a Tool for Addiction Recovery and Sobriety.
Esther is a Yoga instructor, Writer, Author, and self-proclaimed ADHD warrior.
If you are someone who believes they might be struggling with substance abuse, this episode is for you. Esther and I are both several years in recovery, and we reflect upon our experiences with sobriety.
The discussion was incredible, and I very much appreciated Esther's multi-faceted approach to getting and remaining sober. The stories she told in this episode about her recovery are very relatable, and the thought process and breathing techniques can be used by many.
"So yeah, learning to breathe was really an absolutely vital part of this for me, because what it did was it gave me the tools that I needed to be able to basically have another way to do what alcohol, what I thought alcohol did for me.
– Esther Nagle
Some topics discussed include:
•Learn how to apply the concept of ....., for now.
•The difference driving yourself to a party can make in self-regulation.
•How breathing correctly can be put to work as a tool to help calm yourself.
•How applying mindfulness and gratitude in the moment can be a powerful and effective way to make and sustain progress.

I am finding that a professional voice actor's unique perspective is invaluable. This week's guest JD Kelly has had the opportunity to see the world through the lens of many different characters and played many diverse roles throughout his impressive career. JD has over one hundred audiobooks available on Audible. He also has an extensive portfolio of work in animation and video gaming. Some of his work has been for popular video games available for X Box and Playstation. As you listen, you may recognize his voice.
JD and I go on a deep dive about how real shame is in our everyday world, how damaging it is, and how we all experience it. We discuss the shame culture we live in, our personal experiences, and even at times, our contributions to it. We explore the importance of breaking down the barriers that are toxic masculinity, the patriarchy, and institutional racism to deepen our connections.
"Shame creates a barrier to learning and creates a barrier to acceptance and embracing so much of our lives. As a psychological process, shame is responsible for so many problems." JD Kelly

I'd describe this episode with Chef Karly Rose as an experience. She is a Culinary Program Instructor for those with special needs, and you can hear her passion for the work when she speaks. If you're interested in shifting your perspective on food, you won't want to miss this one. Karly also introduced me to the term "side hyper-focus," which I found far funnier than I should
Karly and I spoke about an ongoing relationship with food. We talked about selecting and preparing food and how that skill set needs to be accessible to everyone. We touched on the barriers that people experience with food, such as textures and odors, and some potential solutions.
The concept of Eat the Rainbow that she spoke about in this episode in detail has helped me since reading her article in the January issue of ADHD Lifestyle Magazine and our recent conversation.
I'm grateful to Karly for bringing such great nuggets and takeaways and sharing her story with me.
The one thing that Karly wanted to relay was that she is accessible for people who have questions or need support.

We've broken these episodes into two parts. The first episode is approximately 1 hour long, consisting of two parts. In the first 28 minutes, Brando discusses his experiences as a child with ADHD and its difficulties. It's deeply reflective, and you can hear the work that he's done when he speaks. He has reprocessed and reconciled some of his childhood memories, and what he shares with us is powerful. I encourage those with ADHD and those with children with ADHD to listen to his thoughts.
For the remainder of this episode, we hear the story of his first adventure, where he walked the entire coastline of New Zealand, and the journey lasted an astounding 600 days. Listen in as we hear about when he taught himself to hunt for his food and become connected to nature. On this trip, he learned for the first time that there was nothing wrong with him. He wasn't broken and never was.
The second episode starts after returning from his 600-day trip when he struggled to reacclimate to the world he previously knew. He shared the expeditions he's been on since as a professional adventurer. He's crossed the Ice Cap of Greenland, been on adventures in the Himalayas, kayaked around Vancouver Island (there may have been a chilling grizzly bear encounter that he details), and he's crossed the entire continent of Australian dessert on a bicycle. Each trip has provided him with lessons that will stay with him for the rest of his life.

This two-part series is a profoundly reflective journey that walks us through the physical accomplishments and adventures that Brando has gone on. He discusses the mental barriers addressed and the lessons he's learned along the way during these epic and life-changing experiences.
