Where Can I Fly My Drone? Do Drone Privacy Laws Restrict Flight in Private and Public Spaces?
Today's question is about knowing where to fly your drone without getting into trouble. What are some important drone privacy laws that you need to be aware of before setting flight?
Our caller, Bob from New Jersey is a newly certified Part 107 pilot. Confused with the myriad of drone laws and aware of the FAA's poor lack of enforcement, Bob is wondering if he can go ahead and fly his drone in big, open public spaces without checking airspace at all. Can Bob get into trouble for doing so?
In order to answer Bob's question, we reveal whether drone privacy laws prohibit you from flying in public spaces. First of all, what are some recommended resources for checking where you can safely and legally fly your drone? Should you rely on drone apps like B4UFly for checking airspace? And, do cities and states have the right to enact legal ordinances which prevent you from setting flight?
Apart from the above, we also reveal the various Do's and Don'ts for flying a drone over private property. Can drone pilots freely take photographs of private property? Other topics discussed drone shoot downs, dealing with unruly intruders and the right of Native Americans over airspace. This is a show you do not want to miss. Thanks for the great question, Bob. Fly Safe!
