----Formal English----
Johannesburg is South Africa's largest city and Gauteng province's capital.
It's also one of the world's 50 biggest urban agglomerations and the biggest city in the world that doesn't sit on water of any kind (ocean, lake, or river).
Many consider Johannesburg to be the economic seat of Africa as it is one of Africa's most affluent, modish, and modern cities.
The cityscape is filled with some of the tallest buildings on the continent, including the Carlton Centre, Hillbrow Tower, the Sentech Tower, Ponte City Apartments, and 11 Diagonal Street.
Most of the buildings in the city are newer because the older ones were torn down to make way for more modern structures.
Johannesburg is also noteworthy because some of the world's largest international companies and conglomerations have presences there, including IBM, BHP Billiton, Standard Bank, and National Bank.
In addition to all the tall buildings, Johannesburg also has some astounding parks with a stupendous number of trees.
In fact, the city is considered to be one of the world's greenest cities because it has about 6 million trees, including 1.2 million that are planted along sidewalks and paved areas and another 4.8 million trees that are located in private gardens.
As with most major cities, there's a wide assemblage of people living there, with some areas offering luxurious homes in the suburbs, others holding squatters and shanty towns, and still others having everything else in between.
The size of the squatter population in Johannesburg is significant as many migrants have moved from the rural surrounding areas into the city to look for work.
