The Good Doctor is 'n roman wat geskryf is deur Damon Galgut.

The Good Doctor is a novel that was written by Damon Galgut.
The story centers on an egotistical doctor named Frank Eloff.
He works in a subordinate position at a rural hospital crippled by a paucity of money and apathetic patients and staff members.
The hospital is located in what was previously a homeland of the Bantu people.
Under South Africa's apartheid regime, the region was a tribal reserve and had a sort of nation-state status with its own flag and lawmakers, but after the fall of apartheid, the area became part of South Africa and no longer had its own autonomy.
Eloff is highly pessimistic and at ease with his viewpoint, at least until Laurence Waters, a youthful medic, arrives.
The two share a room, and Waters purposely chose an onerous undertaking in an attempt to contribute to the fate of the new post-apartheid South Africa.
The two become tentative friends and are the antithesis of each other as Eloff's cynicism is juxtaposed with Waters' optimism.
Waters is aptly named, as he symbolizes the cleansing of the walls the other doctors have put up to keep the truth away.
Other characters in the book include Dr. Ngema, his boss, who constantly repeats the mantras set forth by the post-apartheid regime.
She repeats the phrase "innovation and change." There are also two doctors from Cuba who are confused by the self-deceptions that are prevalent among South Africans of the early post-apartheid era.
