Jonty Rhodes is a former cricketer who played both One Day International and South African Test cricket formats.

He was on South Africa's cricket team from 1992 until 2003.

He has been recognized for his adroitness in running while batting, although he is perhaps better known for his prowess in fielding the ball, especially from the backward point position, which he played most customarily.

The inception of Rhodes' career on the South African Test team was in 1992 in the Friendship Tour's first Test, in which South Africa vied with India.

In that initial game, he scored forty-one in the first inning and twenty-six "not outs" in the second inning.

He concluded his career in the Test format of cricket with South Africa's August 6, 2000 game against Sri Lanka.

Rhodes played One Day International cricket contemporaneously with Test cricket, also making his debut in ODI cricket in 1992.

His first match was South Africa's opening match in Sydney, Australia in the 1992 Cricket World Cup.

His reputation was invigorated in the fifth game of the World Cup, in which South Africa faced off with Pakistan.

Rhodes' notoriety can be traced to what most cricket fans say was one of the most sensational plays of the 1992 Cricket World Cup.

A well-known photograph captured the moment when Rhodes dove full length to effect a run out on Inzamam-ul-Haq.

That particular play is also considered by many to be the defining moment of his career.
