This week marks the beginning of Advent, that time of personal and communal preparation for the birth of Our Savior at Christmas. As we plan with excitement and anticipation for the material celebration, we must also remember the authentic meaning of the season. These next four weeks offer the perfect time to assess where we are in our spiritual journey so we can truly be ready for Christ Our Lord. Real preparation for the glory which awaits us means the willingness to block out worldly noise; committing to a conversion of heart; letting go of harmful influences in our lives and opening our hearts to allow the Lord in. Then, when Christmas morning arrives, we are ready to welcome our newborn king with joyful, open and humble hearts.
