023 | The FOMO is real! UK Groundswell have brought music concert vibes to farming with their latest "conference" (not sure you can call it that) bringing together farmers, foodies and everyone in between to talk about regenerative agriculture - this one is on the bucket list for sure! We also discuss the NZ rural banking inquiry and AgriZERO's work in reducing methane emissions via practical tools for farmers.
This week we debate Gene Editing, and the fact that NZ has been silent on the topic for over 20 years. Now is the time to have the conversation as we are quickly falling behind the rest of the world and we need to know what our renewed stance is and why? NZ Food strategy anyone?

Then we ask the question - with so many components reducing the land available for farming - what will we actually eat?
here is a list of resources from our chat and we would love to engage further with you on our Instagram page

020 | Are we in NZ sure we have the sustainability of our workforce covered? Can we honestly say that we use best practice in staff relationships and with Sharemilkers/Managers and Owners? Do we have the framework to support our farmers to be great in this area? And how do we measure our success or lack there of? Does this have the potential to be the underbelly of NZ Ag that is just waiting to be exposed? Will this cost us our Social Licence to operate? and be the next dirty dairy exposure?

017 | We are joined by the one and only Steph Borowski, maybe the funniest farmers wife on the internet. We traverse all things from homeschooling wild and free farm kids, regen ag, the wellness properties of red meat, to the good, bad and ugly of a modern day rural community. There isn't much that isn't talked about this week. So light the fire (it's that time of year), grab a cuppa and a bikkie (you've earnt a wee treat) and join us for a good ol' yarn.
We highly recommend you check out Motherland Australia's podcast, Mother's groups/Villages and all other things they have to offer - https://motherlandaustralia.com.au/
Make sure you are following @steph.borowski and check out her podcast she co-hosts with Husband Josh, Mans Land on Spotify.

016 | A major Southland windfarm is to proceed through the new fast tracking consenting process, a survey examining the profitability and carbon footprints in regenerative agriculture, and the continuing decline in farm sales and prices all hit the news desk this week.
We delve Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, try to demystify the concept and provide a simple explanation that everyone can understand to reduce fear and empower everyone - rural and urban - to take action, if they so choose - or not but from an educated standing.
Additionally, we look ahead to the upcoming South Island Dairy Event (SIDE) at Lincoln University on June 25 and 25 - learn more here.

015 | Our land and water have done more outstanding research, this time in the meals in school space and how this can connect children to agriculture (here), we jump the ditch and look at the effects of PFA contaminated water has on cattle and finally look at some very cool research out of China where they have grown rice successfully in less time in glasshouses, expanding the required growing conditions and therefore locations.
Inspired by the Institute of Directors seasonal magazine, we dig deep into productivity touching on commentary from regional economist Benje Patterson. Why does it matter? how can we improve?
Lastly we leave you with the challenge to do something nice for someone else - just cause - life feels a bit tough right now but lets brighten someone's day!
We also snuck in a wee promo to Jana Hocken of Lean Dairy and her fabulous work, well work checking out - https://theleandairyfarm.com/

014 | Every industry needs disrupters but can NZ ag handle new comers throwing the baby out with the bath water and doing things their way? This week we dig into the book Meet you at the Main Divide written by Justine Ross with Geoff Ross owners of Lake Hawea Station.
Order the book here or check out the rest of their mahi here.
We cover the news of the week - the rain just keeps on pouring and pouring over in the UK resulting in the wettest 12 months and the worst lambing on record; Sam McIvor has stepped away from Beef + Lamb as their CEO and into the same role at OSPRI; with the US lining up for their next presidential election this year we discussed the abrupt U-turns that define their environmental regulations - sound familiar?
Finally, Clarkson's Farm Season 3 is hitting the telly this week! watch it on Prime
