In this podcast, Robert Smalley, MD explores Massachusetts General Hospital's adoption of an automated CT protocoling system. He discusses the system's impact on streamlining scans and its potential for broader application despite the complexities in pediatric radiology. The conversation includes insights from Dr. Ryan Chung's interview on the project's nuances and reflects on the initiative's success in efficiency and error reduction.

Robert Hill, MD discusses an article in which the authors evaluate associations between peritumoral and intratumoral high T2 signal intensity with histopathologic characteristics.

Adrenal-protocol CT is commonly performed as part of the diagnostic workup of adrenal nodules, in order to distinguish adrenal adenomas from tumors. However, there has been limited evaluation of its efficacy in heterogeneous nodules. Sid Dogra, MD discusses a recent multi-institutional study evaluating different methods of ROI placement and show that adrenal-protocol CT generally has poor diagnostic performance in distinguishing adrenal adenomas and non-adenomas in heterogeneous nodules.

Farzan Sherbaf, MD discusses a study on the need for ongoing research to refine PI-RADS criteria and emphasizes the crucial role of radiologists in contributing to this evolution through continuous follow-up of relevant clinical data.

Peter Gunderman, MD discusses a recent AJR study that finds that a free-breathing accelerated cine sequence with deep learning reconstruction is just as accurate as standard breath-hold SSFP sequences in estimating left ventricular measurements. An accurate free-breathing cine sequence could benefit patients who have difficulty holding their breath and decrease scanning times, but there are limitations to the study that may hinder wider adoption.

Rebecca Le, MD discusses a new article challenging the fear of using general anesthesia during percutaneous thoracic procedures, comparing high-frequency jet ventilation (HFJV) with spontaneous respiration (SR) when treating lung tumors with percutaneous ablation.

Hong Linda Li, MD discusses a research letter highlighting the potential use of GPT-4 into radiology reports to flag the presence of three incidental findings that may require further management.

Shruti Kumar, MD study that investigates the outcomes of patients with pure ground-glass nodules, heterogeneous ground-glass nodules, and part-solid nodules. It shows that pure ground-glass nodules have better surgical outcomes and may be monitored noninvasively, whereas nodules with increased density may need surgery.

George Vilanilam, MD zeroes in on a recent study examining the effectiveness of digital breast tomosynthesis screening for patients with prior breast cancer treatment, marking its importance due to the elevated risk of recurrence or new cancer development.
