Since its publication in 1865 it has never been out of print.  Perhaps it's the absurdity of it all that has spawned and influenced so many works of art, from songs to pictures to ballet to film; or perhaps it is characters such as the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat, the White Rabbit and the Queen of Hearts that readers never tire of?
