Residents are concerned about a deluge of water lettuce in the Vaal River. The 
alien plant species is a threat to aquatic life and its leaves are often poisonous. 
Organisations says something must be done urgently to address it as these 
plants reproduce very quickly if the environment is conducive to that.
The water lettuce started in 2021 during the floods and endless calls to the Department of Water and Sanitation & Rand Water have yielded no results.
