Episode 23. In this episode, Ulland and Jo review the common parenting dialects. Several examples are given for normal behavior and pathological behavior. Most examples are from Jo's childhood. Ulland was such a good child. Just ask his Mom.
Episode 22. In this episode Ulland and Jo review dialectical philosophy with examples. Like how common house plants eat humans. How if you could visit yourself in the past you COULD shake your own hand. How everything is connected and there are many ways to view things. Like how difficult it is to define what our essence is. Here uncertainty is sacred. And no mysteries will be solved. Not by us. Not ever.
Ulland and Jo take a brief moment to express gratitude for listener support of the podcast. We have been podcasting for 8 weeks and have had about 1300 downloads in that time. We are grateful for the opportunity to share something we are passionate about on a platform we did not even consider could be global. We are quite excited about a strong presence in Australia, and even in exotic, non-English speaking northern European countries like Finland, Sweden and Poland. We are enjoying a smattering of states that have been following along it appears. We are hoping that we are building a larger base of listeners with different platforms. We are now on iTunes, Google Play Music and Spotify, which is encouraging since their platforms seem to have more flexibility for listeners in how they choose to listen.
Episode 21. In this episode Ulland and Jo review behaviorism with some real world examples. Jo talks about peeing in pants, and Ulland encourages micturating on cheerios. Skills are necessary to move from the Shame Narrative of the Fantasies to the Positive Reality. This can only be accomplished by first moving through the Negative Reality by no longer avoiding emotions that must be experienced or grieved.
Episode 19. In this episode Ulland and Jo discuss the secondary targets. They are common dialects in the average person and are amplified in times of emotional dysregulation. They are Active Passivity vs. Apparent Competence, Emotional Vulnerability vs. Self-Invalidation, and Unrelenting Crisis vs. Inhibited Grieving. Understanding secondary targets becomes useful for predicting behaviors while also helping with understanding what skills and techniques are most likely to help.
