But the country's debt is high and going higher, and no one wants to tackle Social Security or Medicare. Plus, a handful of House Republicans threaten to vote down a GOP tax bill unless it expands the deduction for state and local taxes, or SALT, which is a subsidy to California, New York and New Jersey.
