Episode 194
You know the old saying, when life gives you lemons and makes you fly to another part of the country at the drop of a hat and it interrupts recording your dorky automotive podcast with your taffy-addled friend, you make lemonade? Yeah, that old chestnut.
In this week we do what we can given our limited time, Dave takes Ian to the airport, we drink coffee, talk about cars, and console Ian in regards to a battle he never fought, yet fights every day.
We love you.
Episode 193-I mean, it's just a Trailblazer.
If you really want to get exactly what you want, it's going to take some work. And money. Usually a fair amount of money. In this week's episode we appreciate the individual that perfected the Buick station wagon. It took a lot of work, but the results are nothing short of stunning.
We also turn our eyes to a wrecked Allroad, and try to put together the pieces of the now sadly impacted puzzle. Ooooof.
Lastly, Dave once again finds himself as the sane half of the podcast as Ian suddenly takes a liking to the Saab 9-7x. Yeah, we don't know either, maybe something got mixed in with Ian's hair product this week and is making him think a little funny.
Episode 192-At least he didn't say tube tops.
There's a quite morbidity about a decaying, neglected, and no longer used factory. There's a quietness to it. Sadness in the stillness of an era that has long since passed. Wow. Trust me, this show is not as much of a downer as those Smiths-caliber sentences portray. Trust us.
We actually had a really good time this episode. Well, Dave did at least. Ian…not so much. It turns out that the less fabric that adorns his body, the less happy he is. Huh. How about that. You're going to want to stick around and listen to that one unfold.
Lastly, if you're anywhere near Denver on Tuesday June 18th, you should come to Unser and participate in the All You Can Race event with us, where we'll be hosting over two hours of racing and then recording episode 200 in front of you, the live studio audience! Come watch us, race with us, and have a good old time! Episode 191-Jeepie go BOOOOST!!!
It's hard to believe that out of Ian and Dave, that Ian is the one that's driven a dualie pickup truck. Well, this week we made that right, as Dave got behind the wheel of some fantastic Ram 3500 truck. Six wheels and serendipity, and the Missouri half of the podcast has now ticked a big box.
Speaking of trucks, we also had the opportunity to drive the Jeep Gladiator Rubicon! Jeep's first truck in 27 years and we get our stinking hands on it. I know, we can't believe it either! We also spent some time behind the wheel of the absolutely fantastic Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, this one packing the 4 cylinder engine and a billion smiles.
Lastly, we round out the show with tons of listener content. Erik in IL sees a Kia that melts Dave's brain, Joe (America's greatest living photographer) sends us vanity insanity from Kansas (https://www.instagram.com/joehammers/ give him a follow for sure), and we coin a new term, "Carsonification".
Episode 190
This week we're very fortunate to have a fantastic guest, Erik Bergman with Hagerty! You absolutely should be aware of Hagerty if you happen to have a collectible car that you'd like to insure, but there are many facets to this diamond of the automotive enthusiast community.
Join us as we delve into the world of what it's like to insure a SEVENTY MILLION DOLLAR CAR, why Buick Roadmaster wagons are LEGIT, and how insanely cheap a Pontiac Trans Am is to maintain.
Erik, we are honored to have you as our guest. We had an amazing time and you're welcome back any time!
Episode 189-DON'T AT ME
Our resident Ginger has been out and about on the roads of Colorado and before doing so he solicited the advice of our resident vinyl junkie to get some advice. There's something special about queuing up one specific album in preparation for a drive. The duality of cars and songs run deep. DEEEEEEP.
What else? JDM Nissan GT-R 32s are TINY cars, Dave has a close call, and we talk about some videos that we've published lately.
And to foreshadow something we'll certainly revisit, we happen to stumble upon perhaps the most perfect two-car garage ever, and it won't break the bank. There's your clickbait right there. We love you.
Episode 188
Copyright law. It's something we obviously don't understand. We do understand one thing though, if we're not taking people's money, we don't ask any questions. We had a good time at the Mushroom Rally here in Denver, and it turns out we look great in dresses!
In this episode we also discuss Ian's rental car, shame fast food and the weird feelings belly dancers gave Dave. No, not like that. It's Dave we're talking about here people.
We wrap the show up with a couple listener voicemails (thanks Henry!!!) and how seeing a bloodhound makes your day.
Episode 187
This week in the blanket fort, Matt Pilgrim from http://www.pilgrimmotorpress.com does us the honor of sitting down to talk about automotive engineering, the Denver Auto Show, and wing mirrors, oh glorious wing mirrors! You'll want to skip Ian and Dave's normal BS and skip ahead to about 51:24 in the episode to drop in on Matt's piece.
Before Matt? Eh, don't worry about it. It certainly doesn't rhyme with shmoil shman, and has nothing to do with Ian's crazy low VW R32 and the insane methods of pothole ahem...repair here in Denver.
Matt, thank you so much for being on the show, you're welcome back in the blanket fort any time!
Episode 186-Officially Unofficial
We have no idea why we keep getting asked back to the press day at the Denver Auto Show, but we're not going to look a gift Prius in the grille. Come along with us as we take a walking tour of the show floor, a few bio breaks, and discuss the conundrum that is a regional auto show.
Follow along our weird directions, head "Dave North" from the entrance, and keep us in your pocket and in your ear holes as you wait for toddlers to get out of a Lexus LS500 so that you can get some freaking peace and quiet for once.
We enjoy doing this and just like everything else we do, we're promising to do it better next time. Sorry for the overzealous noise-reduction and compression, there were a lot of vacuum cleaners. We love you, enjoy!
Episode 185-A Man, A Plan, A Kart Stuck In A Barricade
They say that the best laid plans of mice and men, and in this case our two goofball hosts, go astray. That's true. There's no arguing that. In this episode we recap Dave's genius plan on how to get a couple clean laps in when karting with the gruppetto-esque public.
We also discuss how Dave's plan to beat Ian at Fantasy F1 goes just as wrong, how Dave only thinks of himself, and also how Ian is the great karting equalizer which would make the best (and hairiest) superhero.
And yes, I 'm factoring in Beast. Even hairier.
