  • Johnny Mnemonic
Jack in. Double your memory capacity. And above all else…don’t lose your head! Hot Dave’s Summer Film Fest continues with Johnny Mnemonic. I’m your host, Dave, and joining me are fellow cinephiles and Pharmacom stockholders, Mike, Jackie, and Ryan.

Listen as we discuss the cumbersome user interface of 2021’s Internet; we wonder if Johnny Mnemonic will be ironically embraced by Gen-Z; and finally, director Robert Longo makes one last attempt to redeem his cyber thriller by releasing his own “shiny and chrome” version.

  • Ghost
Hot Dave’s Summer Film Fest continues as the Swayzeasaurus Rex returns to the Funderdome for more shirtless action. I’m your host, Dave, and joining me as we remain crazy for Swayze as he flaunts his rock hard abs all over the afterlife are fellow cinephiles and fortune tellers Mike, Jackie, and special guest returning for her Swayze fix: Kara.

Listen as we discuss Ghost, the romantic drama that beat the likes of John McClane and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at the box office; we’ll also rate the sexiness of the Righteous Brothers’ “Unchained Melody” against Dirty Dancing’s “Time of your Life”; and finally, Mike drops a hot take regarding death and how maybe it’s not so bad being a ghost (...as long as you live in New York City).

  • Weird Science
Boot up the computer and bust out the Playboy’s, because we’ve got some data to upload into the latest installment of the second annual Hot Dave’s Summer Film Fest…and between you and me – it’s a little weird. I’m your host, Dave, and joining me as we discuss John Hughes’s pervy follow up to The Breakfast Club are fellow cinephiles and now middle aged perverts, Mike and Immortan Hoof (aka: Nick).

Listen as we discuss John Hughes’s Weird Science, a film Gene Siskel called “a vulgar, mindless, special-effects-cluttered wasteland”; we marvel at the powerful and intuitive computers of the 1980s; and finally, we learn what the perfect breast size is, as decreed by a pair of fifteen year old pervs.

  • Splash
The podcast which you are about to hear is an account of the tragedy which befell a group of three youths, in particular Cody Eastlick and his mermaid stunt show performer/mistress, Lincoln. It is all the more tragic that they were young. But, had they lived very, very long lives, they could not have expected nor would they have wished to see as much of the mad and the macabre as they were to see that day. For them an idyllic summer podcast recording became a nightmare.

The events of that day were to lead to the discussion of one of the most bizarre box office successes in the annals of American cinema: Ron Howard’s…Splash.

Listen as Cody, Lincoln, and Apocalypse Video host Dave discuss the baffling success of Splash, including its unlikely Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay; they’ll also discuss the Madison phenomenon and how this movie became the namesake for thousands of little girls; and finally, Cody takes the podcast into an even darker path with the disturbing underground world of Splash fan fiction.

  • The Shadow
The second annual Hot Dave’s Summer Film Fest rolls on – but what kind of summer movie season would it be without the obligatory superhero film? I’m your host, Dave, and joining me as we don our cloaks and strap on our dual pistol shoulder holsters are fellow cinephiles and agents of The Shadow: Mike, Jackie, Ryan, and Cody.

Listen as we discuss how The Shadow was one of the biggest box office bombs of the 90s (at least until Waterworld); we breakdown the Shadow’s face, which looks like the unholy union of Robert De Niro and Liam Neeson; and finally, a heated debate ensues as to why Tim Curry enters the seemingly empty sphere room in the second act: was a scene simply cut that explains his presence there or am I just going crazy pointing out a problem with the film that doesn’t exist? You be the judge!

The second annual Hot Dave’s Summer Film Fest continues as we board Jan de Bont’s 1994 action classic: Speed. I’m your host, Dave, and joining me as we get on the bus that couldn’t slow down are fellow cinephiles and retired bomb squad officers Mike and Ryan.

Listen as we discuss “Die Hard On a Bus”, aka: the film that would play daily on the FX channel in the 2000s; we lament the loss of payphones as a way to demand ransom; and finally, we breakdown the most memorable moment of Speed, as God comes down from Heaven to pickup a bus and place it on the other end of an unfinished freeway ramp.

  • Dirty Dancing
Welcome, one and all, to the Second Annual Hot Dave’s Summer Film Fest - Live from Funderdome. Unlike last year’s botched impromptu promotion, this time we’re pulling out ALL THE STOPS, bringing you the best (and worst) that Hollywood has to offer.

Now…strap yourselves in, get your tissues ready, and prepare to sweat like it’s summer in the catskills – it’s the SWAYZEASAURUS REX in…Dirty Dancing!

I’m your host, Dave, and joining me as we totally whiff the lift are fellow cinephiles and Swayze-stans Mike, Jackie, Ryan, and Special Guest - Kara.

Listen as we discuss the film that awoke the sexual desires of an entire generation; we raise an eyebrow at Kellerman’s Mountain Resort and its practice of pairing off the staff with its young female guests; and finally, we bask in the sweaty glory that is Johnny Castle (aka Patrick Swayzeasaurus).

    5. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
After doing three episodes of the RoboPod and having to constantly look over our shoulders to see what crime is going to be perpetrated on us next, we’ve decided to take a brief vacation from the dangerous streets of Old Detroit and take Saturday Morning Apocalypse to Gotham City, where nothing bad ever happens.

I’m your host, Dave, and joining me as we slap on our utility belts are fellow cartoonophiles Nick (aka Immortan Hoof), Mike, and Ryan.

Listen as we discuss Batman - Mask of the Phantasm, aka: the Citizen Kane of Batman stories; we marvel at the seemingly countless number of abandoned superstructures in Gotham that house villain hideouts; and finally, Ryan offers up his hot take on the Phantasm’s signature knife-nub weapon.

    6. Yes, Madam! (aka: In the Line of Duty 2 - The Super Cops)
Parallel Reality movies are hard to come by in the Wasteland, so whenever a rip in space time occurs, or Cross Rift Parcel Service is running deliveries in your area, it behooves one to make sure that they jump on the chance to watch any cinema from a non-post apocalyptic timeline. Unfortunately, for yours truly, I missed out on the multiverse comedy/drama Everything, Everywhere, All at Once that everyone seems to be raving about.

Thankfully, I do manage the biggest (and only surviving) video store in the Wasteland, so surely there must be a Michelle Yeoh film on my shelves that can match the raw emotion and craziness of Daniel's latest mind bender, right? …right?!

I’m your host, Dave, and joining me as we laugh maniacally for awkward stretches of time are fellow cinephiles and Super Cops Ryan and Cody.

Listen as we discuss how Michelle Yeoh and Cynthia Rothrock’s first feature is basically an Abbott and Costello meet The Super Cops movie; we marvel at the flagrant musical theft on display, as John Carpenter’s Halloween score makes several unexpected appearances; and finally, no piece of glass will go unbroken, as Yeoh and Rothrock show their action film contemporaries what kicking ass really looks like.
