In this episode Steve joins longtime friend Heath Hyatt for a bear hunt with hounds in southwestern Virginia, a hunt in which five bears were treed in five days. Back in camp, the friends discuss Heath’s job as a Master Trainer of police dogs, managing 13 canines for various law enforcement agencies in the New River basin. 

The boys recap each day’s hunt and the conversation drifts into the fundamentals of building a firm foundation of training including levels of control, recognizing the role genetics plays in training and the importance of a hands-on approach in building the firm foundation. Hyatt shares things he has learned as a canine trainer in police work and how he applies those skills to training his successful pack of bear hounds
