  • Dijanna Mulhearn Releases The Book Red Carpet Oscars
A dazzling survey of more than 90 years of fashion on the Oscars red carpet The Oscars red carpet is so much more than fabulous gowns on famous people. It reflects the styles and values of each era and has become a highly visible platform to make social statements. In Red Carpet Oscars, fashion writer Dijanna Mulhearn presents more than ninety years of fashion worn at the biggest event in the entertainment world since its inception in 1929, charting what the stars wore and why. From homemade and pre-loved dresses to ready-to-wear and haute couture, she tracks the style evolution of Hollywood's leading figures, the commercialization of the red carpet, the emergence of stylists, and radical shifts that have reshaped formal dressing. This dazzling chronological survey showcases a thousand looks over the course of nearly a century, with each annual entry summarizing changes in fashion trends year-to-year, the stories behind the styles, and the social and political influences of the time, and making note of the winners in the Oscars' major acting categories, as well as Best Picture and (starting in 1949) Best Costume Design award recipients.

  • Ellen Oh Releases The Book You Are Here
Twelve award-winning and bestselling East and Southeast Asian American authors explore themes of identity and belonging in You Are Here: Connecting Flights, edited by Ellen Oh. With interwoven stories all taking place in a teeming Chicago airport, the book details the entwined experiences of young people whose family roots may extend to East and Southeast Asia, but who are themselves distinctly American. An incident at a TSA security check point sows chaos and rumors, creating a chain of events that impacts twelve young Asian Americans in a crowded and restless airport. As their disrupted journeys crisscross and collide, they encounter fellow travelers—some helpful, some hostile—as they discover the challenges of friendship, the power of courage, the importance of the right word at the right time, and the unexpected significance of a blue Stratocaster electric guitar. With stories from Linda Sue Park, Erin Entrada Kelly, Randy Ribay, Grace Lin, Traci Chee, Mike Chen, Meredith Ireland, Mike Jung, Minh Le, Ellen Oh, Christina Soontornvat, and Susan Tan, YOU ARE HERE: CONNECTING FLIGHTS is the premier release from HarperCollins Children’s Books’ new imprint, Allida. Created to publish books for children and teens, the imprint’s mission is to encourage marginalized writers and artists to explore the stories they are most passionate about and to craft narratives that defy expectations.

  • Chris Thomas Releases The Book Unexpected The Backstory Of Finding Elizabeth Smart
Chris Thomas is not yet thirty years old when he finds himself managing the mmense pressure, eccentric personalities, and extenuating circumstances of an international story, where one small misstep could adversely impact the search for a missing teenager and the reputation of her family. Now, twenty years later, Thomas takes readers behind the scenes, providing new details, perspectives, and commentary on finding Elizabeth Smart. In the process of reflecting on Elizabeth's search and rescue, Thomas discovers how growing up in the culture of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly known as Mormon) helped push him to develop the exact kind of intuition needed to manage the story of Elizabeth's kidnapping and rescue, and to do so while the world watched. Unexpected juxtaposes crucial events from the Smart case with Thomas's experience growing up in the Latter-day Saint culture, including coming to understand the secret of a broken war hero before it was too late.

  • Jade Adia Releases The Book There Goes The Neighborhood
Rhea’s neighborhood is fading away-the mom-and-pop shops of her childhood forced out to make space for an artisanal kombucha brewery here, a hot yoga studio there. And everywhere, the feeling that this place is no longer meant for her. Because while their little corner of South L.A. isn’t perfect, to Rhea and her two best friends, it’s something even more important-it’s home. And it’s worth protecting. But as more white people flock to their latest edgy, urban paradise for its cheap rent and sparkling new Whole Foods, more of Rhea’s friends and family are pushed out. Until Rhea decides it’s time to push back. Armed with their cellphones and a bag of firecrackers, the friends manipulate social media to create the illusion of gang violence in their neighborhood. All Rhea wanted to do was protect her community. Her friends. Herself. No one was supposed to get hurt. No one was supposed to die. But is anyone ever really safe when you’re fighting power with fear? Born and raised in South LA, Jade Adia writes stories about gentrification, Black teen joy, and the sh*tshow that is capitalism. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Ethnicity, Race & Migration, and a certificate in Human Rights. She recently survived law school, graduating with a specialization in Critical Race Studies. There Goes the Neighborhood is her debut novel.

  • Karla Simone Spence And Sara Collins From The Confessions Of Frannie Langton On Brit Box
Following its successful UK premiere, new BritBox Original limited series The Confessions of Frannie Langton, a powerful period drama with a murder mystery and a tale of forbidden love at its core, will premiere exclusively on BritBox.

Adapted from the Costa Book award-winning novel of the same name by the author herself, Sara Collins, and set against the dazzling opulence of Georgian London, The Confessions of Frannie Langton narrates Frannie’s journey from a Jamaican plantation to the grand Mayfair mansion of celebrated scientist George Benham and his exquisitely beautiful wife: Madame Marguerite Benham. In a misguided and monstrous gesture, Frannie is gifted to Benham by the man who owns her, John Langton, and she is employed as a maid in the household, much to her chagrin.

As the plot twists and turns, events take a fateful turn as the Benhams are found murdered in their beds, with Frannie lying next to Marguerite. Frannie is accused of murder but swears that she couldn’t possibly have killed her mistress because she was devoted to her. Dragged away to prison, Frannie attempts to piece together the events of that night. She is deep into a laudanum addiction and unclear about precisely what happened.
