Welcome back to the studio.  This is My Day of Play, where you’re taken into the real events and actions of how it happens long before the process of editing or cleaning up.  The original purpose of these episodes was to give my broadcasting students something to edit, to practice with and to call their own.  Then I realized that you are just as important.  Share the reality of how it really went.  We begin things with author Michael Walsh the author of Rage To Conquer which speaks of the twelve most important battles in western history. Then we’re breaking out the childhood fun while wearing adult slippers with Jodi Jill from Highlights magazine.  And we’ll wrap things up with actor Auturo Castro who hosts the podcast Greatest Escapes.  Those who’ve figured out ways to bust free of prison. This is My Day of Play.  Completely unedited in the way of meeting the wizard behind the curtain.

When it’s extremely difficult to make up your mind.  Having the power of choice can actually weaken someone.  On this episode we’re going to explore our choice to continuing to believe in the outreach of terrestrial radio.  Plus…what kind of person is wanting to still get into an industry that’s currently earning some really bad stories? I’m Arroe.  Life is a series of choices.  Who decides when you’re not making it the right choice?  Is it the fear of going wrong?  The greatest lessons in life are often lost inside hidden away attempts and concepts.  It’s time to reopen your heart. Having a choice is a daily gift.  On this highway we learn to trust mirages… What is the choice?

I’m always asking questions.  The fun begins when you start researching for answers. Such as…   Illegitimate child…whoa.  A term once used a lot.  Not so much inside these days of being politically correct.  Plus… does success really start with one’s failure?   I’m Arroe…  I am a daily writer.  A silent wolf.  I stand on the sidelines and do nothing but watch, listen study then activate.  I call it The Daily Mess.  A chronological walk through an everyday world.  Yes, it’s my morning writing.  As a receiver of thoughts and ideas, we as people tend to throw it to the side and deal with it later.  When a subject arrives, I dig in.  It’s still keeping a journal!  By doing the research the picture becomes clearer.  This is the Daily Mess…

Endlessly as a child my father and grandparents used the term shit for brains. Research says it was part of their everyday street! What? How?

Lady Bird Johnson’s daring 1964 whistle-stop campaign and the publication of You Can't Catch Us: Lady Bird Johnson's Trailblazing 1964 Campaign Train and the Women Who Rode with Her (Sourcebooks, March 3, 2026). You Can’t Catch Us is more than political history—it’s a powerful testament to women-led leadership, resilience, and the pursuit of civility during turbulent times. As Schmidt deftly illustrates, this journey—"the four most dramatic days in my political life," as Lady Bird herself called it—helped redefine the role of presidential spouses and advanced the cause of women in politics.
In October 1964, as the South simmered under the tensions following the signing of the Civil Rights Act three months earlier, First Lady Lady Bird Johnson boarded a specially outfitted nineteen-car train—the “Lady Bird Special”— and traversed eight Southern states. With forty-seven stops over four electrifying days and 1,682 miles behind her, she shattered the expectations of a presidential spouse with speeches, diplomacy, and palpable compassion. Shannon McKenna Schmidt shines a spotlight not just on Lady Bird’s trailblazing role, but on the pioneering women who stood by her: Liz Carpenter, a trailblazing press secretary and the first East Wing staff director; Dr. Janet Travell, the first female White House physician; and legendary journalist Helen Thomas.
