Have you ever had moments where you think back and you feel like you’ve over catastrophized the situation? Or you lashed out on someone at the spur of the moment then thought to yourself that you’re an idiot for replying so aggressively?
We’ve had plenty of those moments in our lives too. Sometimes the moments in our head can feel a lot more intense than the real situation. Along with that, just over catastrophizing a thought or a moment before it happens is also really common.
This was something that was embedded in our natural instinct to survive. Apparently our brains are hard wired to focus on the bad. Did you know that catastrophizing is actually really common and up to 70% of our thoughts are negative? How crazy is that?!
Let us know, when was the last time you over catastrophised a moment that really wasn’t as bad as you initially thought it was.

Hitting off half way to 100 episodes with our first (self made) Ask the duo session. So we’ve switched up the style for this episode with 3 assorted relationship situations from online (don’t worry everyone has been kept anonymous) and we wanted to give our personal opinions on how to tackle this situation.
The situations that we’ve picked our are some fairly common yet complicated relationship situations so here is our take on them.

When someone mentions the ‘head of family’ we’d typically have a male in mind. However sometimes women can also be the head of the family too. This was the case for Anita, after a quick break down in her previous episode with us on ‘keeping your family close’. Her and Sam briefly walked us through losing their dad and Anita’s challenges trying to live through her mid 20s trying to navigate taking care of the family.
So this episode we deep dive even further into what it was like, not only taking care of the family, but now also being the head of the family & in her community. We also talk through the cultural expectations, no matter if you’re a female or male and being the eldest.
Let us know if you’re the eldest in the family and some of the family and cultural expectations you have.

Break ups are not fun and especially when you’ve been with someone for such a long time. Sometimes it’s also hard to know if it’s time to let things go. So today we’ve broken down some of our own tell tale signs that we’re not that into the other person anymore.
Of course every relationship and situation is different but also remember that not everyone is made for each other and no ones is at fault. It just wasn’t meant to be and that’s completely okay. As they say, once one door closes, a new door opens and the same applies to relationships.
The biggest thing to remember is always be true to yourself and your values 🙂

Amelia is putting Sam and his sister, Anita in the hot seat today as Amelia interviews them on their take on the importance of family. When Amelia first met the Duong family, it was nothing like she’s experienced before. They had a close relationship with each other and they always reinforced the importance of keeping family first as you’re not promised tomorrow. This was something they really emphasised and it has been something that was instilled in their DNA from their late father who unfortunately passed away back in 2009.
The last session with Anita, she gave her career advice and this time we have her back to give her sisterly advice to us all. To them, family also didn’t mean the people you see at home, it was their close friends too.
This was one deep conversation for sure but a conversation that everyone should have with their loved ones.

Being friend zoned is not fun, it could bring self doubt, embarrassment, anxiousness and many other unpleasant emotions. However, these experiences is what helps us grow. They say rejection is redirection and that’s exactly what we think being friend zoned is too. Everything happens for a reason and if things aren’t meant to be, then it’s just not meant to be.
So let us help you shift that mindset a little to keep punching forward. We did have to learn to accept this through our own experiences, so on this episode we chat about our stories of being friend zoned, friend zoning someone and how our take on the friend zone has evolved over the years.
We both can see the good that can come out of being friend zoned and we want to shine some light on the stigma around being there.
Let us know your friend zone story and what your takeaways were from these experiences!

How many times have you heard the phrase, “I'll be happy when…” or “wouldn’t it be great if we got…”. More often than not, people attach the definition of happiness to something they need to obtain. Although it could bring you happiness but it isn’t the true definition of happiness.
This is why it got us thinking, should we be re-evaluating the definition of happiness? Tal Ben-Shahar, a positive psychologist has a theory that you shouldn't chase happiness.
External factors such as the social norms of getting married, finding a partner, having a family, being rich can sometimes influence people to think that these are the definition of happiness but there is more it than that.
Others believe that happiness is a paradox. I.e. studies from Iris Moss have shown that the more you chase happiness, the harder you fall. Because if you don’t find the things you have defined as happiness, then you feel disappointed.
Listen in on the episode and let us know what you think about this theory. Should we be re-evaluating the definition of happiness?

People can so easily be caught up in life and become so accustomed to working that they forget to acknowledge their achievements. This happened to Amelia, accompanied by a typical Asian upbringing where acknowledgement and celebrating wins is not really a thing.
When she was asked at work to write down some achievements, it hit her hard that she couldn’t write down a single thing and instead she got hit with a sudden emotion of sadness. So this episode not only is a therapy session for Amelia but it is a reminder to start noting down even the small wins, no achievement is too big or too small.
Remember to leave the ego behind, truly appreciate the hard work you’ve put in. Then in the future, this will be something you look back into and see all the little things you’ve achieved over time to get to where you are today.
