1:35 Dave checked his stats and he is up to 22 listeners so far this month. The stats are not impressive for the $89 a month they are charging. If you want a streaming station you can get the same playlist features with Abovecast.com, but you will have to list your show in directories manually (Dave is working on a list for those interested).

The equation for the number of downloads is: 

Value in your episode multiplied by the amount of time spent promoting your shows = Total Number of Downloads

Austin should get a domain name, I prefer to have a self hosted Wordpress install (use the coupon code podcastcoach), and get a microphone like the Audio technica 2100

Dave had a member of the School of Podcasting who had the Miami Valley Music Cast, but got a notice from the people who had musiccast. So he had to change the name of his show to www.audiogumshoe.com

As podcasting gets bigger we might see more legal issues come into the arena. Companies have to defend their trademark, and it gets fuzzy.

Jim has never listened to Serial? It turns out that a whole bunch of people have not heard the Serial podcast. Mike Dell from podcasthelpdesk.com and was saying he thinks they drag out the stories too long.

Live365 Live Streaming System

09:26 Live365 has partnered with Blubrry to create podcast2radio.com which is $89 a month. Dave explains how he has had a streaming station and doesn't get that much traffic. He is paying around $15 a month. 

Dave us getting around 70 listeners a month. 

 

It depends on what format you stream, and how many total listeners you can have at one time. So with Live365 are paying for unlimited listeners, and when you first start off you don't need it (this will obviously depend on your genre, and your audience). My peak listener number was 7 at the same time.

You can list your station in iTunes Radio, Window Media Player, TuneIn, and other sites to be in directories (just like podcast). Dave feels they may be a little early (and that they need to taylor this to podcasting). Jason Bryant said he blocked over 300 ads on their site (that's a bit crazy)

What is Going to be the Big Thing In 2016 For Podcasters?

20:19 There are tons of people creating custom players for podcasters. Clammr has already stepped up their game. Bookmarks are pretty cool. Do players add to downloads? Probably not but they add to the experience. Dave uses Simple Podcast Press on this site. It would be nice if there was a player or app that made it easy to "take notes" in the app

There may be a bit of a divide between the NPR type podcasts because they are getting all the press because they have friends on the press. There may be a bit of divide between pro and amateur podcasters

How Do Get Money and Conversions with Podcasting?

26:50 CPM (pay per thousand downloads) is a horrible way to monetize a podcast. Dave explains to an "Internet Marketer" the ins and outs of podcasting and how it is a "Value for Value" model. You need to develop a relationship with your audience. 

It takes time to develop a relationship (just like you do with your friends). Any sales is all about relationships.

Today Dave is having a technical issue and had to revert to just using his Audio Technica 2100 into blab.

He is using a condensor microphone. These pick up everything. A dynamic microphone like the Audio Technica 2100

Separate the pieces in your sound chain (microphone, cables, power, etc). Get it down to the simplest for mat you can then build on that

Write down what you've learned from each step of the troubleshooting process.

The caller is using Spreaker and Uberconference. Uberconference provides a mp3. It's a better bad choice. Dave uses Callburner to record skype. You might also look into getting a skype in or a skype out number to call phones.

There is no one size fits all as different genres and topics have more potential than others. Right now the median of podcasting right now is 165 per episode.

Why did you start podcasting? While you can make money as a marketing tool for your company and products, podcasting is not a great tool for making "quick cash."

@nocupcakesone does not have a dedicated website for his podcast. Facebook recently deleted a Facebook page of someone who had TONS of people on their page and they just deleted it. If you're not a "techie" then you can find affordable people to do the tech stuff for you.

I want to cut out the "gems" and put out the "gemless" version to his public audience and charge people get the best parts. It might be better to limit the number in the episodes in the feed and charge to get your complete episodes. Digital Access Pass provides a secure RSS feed.

You can tell people what to do for free, you charge to tell them how to do it.
