Atlantic Voice: Atlantic Canadian slave ships

This summer, at a contemporary art festival called the Bonavista Biennale, I visited an installation that changed my understanding of the slave trade.
Canadian artist Camille Turner's installation revealed that 19 of the ships used to transport people from Africa into slavery were built in Newfoundland. And it's not just NL, many shipbuilding communities in Atlantic Canada constructed purpose-built slave ships.
