    Abdominal Vascular Trauma – Arterial with Dr. Todd Rasmussen.

     Dr. Rasmussen is a Colonel in the United States Air Force and is a Professor of Surgery and Associate Dean of Research at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences and an attending vascular surgeon at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

    Dr. Rasmussen has been deployed numerous times to Iraq and Afghanistan, and cared for many traumatic vascular injuries at Walter Reed Medical Center, through his experience and research he has become one of the foremost leaders on the management of vascular trauma and recently published the third edition of Rich’s Vascular Trauma.

    Dr. Frank Veith is widely recognized as a thought leader in vascular surgery with too numerous to count awards, publications and leadership positions, including the past chairman of the American Board of Vascular Surgery and was the 50th president of the Society for Vascular Surgery.  He discusses the upcoming Veith Symposium and discusses the controversy surrounding a separate, independent board of vascular surgery.

  • Gilbert R. Upchurch, Jr, MD - Mentorship, Millennials and Modern Vascular Surgery

    Dr. Gilbert Upchurch is the Edward R. Woodward Professor and Chair of Surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine and the 2019 president of the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery. He completed his general surgery residency and vascular surgery fellowship at Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital and his endovascular fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic.  He presently holds four active NIH grants for studies examining the molecular basis and gender differential for aortic aneurysm formation. He is also active in clinical practice and has contributed to the advancement of endovascular technology via multiple device trials. He is an associate editor of Rutherford’s Vascular Surgery and has given over 400 invited lectures, which include 150 visiting professorships. In addition to his impressive track record as a surgeon-scientist, he has used his academic leadership roles as a platform for mentorship and education. He has won numerous awards as an educator and takes a particular interest in adapting education to the learning needs of a younger generation of surgeons.
