I've been chin-wagging with the best people in the world while in lockdown!Today's guest is Shana Thompson, host of the American English Podcast!Like me, she creates fun & educational content designed for intermediate to Advanced English learners.Ah mates, we've got much in common! We both do podcasts for English learners. We both married Brazilians (she's American, and I'm- well, you know that, don't you?!).We both know how to speak Portuguese.AND we both have two children who are growing up in a bilingual household! In today's talk, we talk about what it takes to "marry" a new culture. How it feels to open up yourself to a different way of doing things. We also talk about the struggles of learning a new language. Like, when you're up there at that intermediate level (like you!), now what? And we also talk about how we are raising bilingual children! Our children are learning both English and Portuguese at the same time, and it's fascinating to watch them switch between the two languages.Besides English, are you learning another language? Tell me about it in the comments below!Improve your listening skills today – listen, play, & pause this episode – and start speaking like a native English speaker!Send us Fan Mail

Hey, you mob! Here is another English expression to add to your growing list of vocabulary! In this episode, I will teach you about the English expression "like a fish out of water"! Maybe you've seen a fish pulled out of the water. It wriggles and flops around, right? How do you think the fish "feels"? That is our lesson for today! Also, I will be answering a question from @rurrochman -- "How often do spiders actually come out [in Australia]?" -- hmm, very interesting, considering how much bad press these Australian spiders get, especially on the Internet.Listen to a story about an Aussie angler who caught the SAME flathead fish 3 times in a row! The fish just loves getting hooked, doesn't it?And because you've been asking me to talk about Australian TV shows, let me introduce you to Seachange! I get very nostalgic seeing this TV series because it was filmed where I grew up. This is a great resource for you guys if you want to learn more about Australian culture, slang, and expressions.Did you watch till the end? How would you answer the last question? G'day, mates! Here's another fun talk with my dad Ian Smissen on The Goss.In this episode, we talk about the Australian drinking culture. We talk about how it compares to the drinking culture in France and in the US. We also talk about the pubs here Down Under; how they are cared for by their owners, passed from one generation to another. But why exactly do people drink? Is it to drink everything and anything that you can stomach till you puke? Or is it to be cool and socialise with others? Can you tell me about the drinking culture in YOUR country?Improve your listening skills today – listen, play, & pause this episode – and start speaking like a native English speaker!Send us Fan Mail
Australia was hit by a huge 5.9 magnitude earthquake this morning. The biggest in history for the state of Victoria. In today's episode, I tell you about my experience as I felt the earthquake whilst sitting down with my family at breakfast. The 2021 Australia earthquake had an epicentre located outside of Mansfield in Victoria. The earthquake was felt in the cities of Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, Canberra, and Brisbane, and throughout Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, ACT, and Queensland.I also talk about how earthquakes occur, where they occur, why Australia has earthquakes, but not the huge devastating earthquakes like those that hit Japan, Chile, North America, etc. We also talk about how earthquakes are measured.#Australia #australianearthquake #earthquakesFrom the publisher's feed
