Earlier, the Tamil kingdom was divided into two parts. A conflict arose between its two rulers, Killi Valavan and Malayaman, leading to war. In battle, Malayaman was defeated and fled to the forest, while his three sons were captured by soldiers. Killi Valavan decided to execute the innocent children by placing them under an elephant’s feet. Seeing their pitiful state, the people remained silent. However, the great poet Kovur Kilar not only protested but also reminded Killi Valavan of his lineage from the noble Shibi dynasty. Hearing this, the king felt ashamed and, instead of killing the children, granted them protection and proper shelter.

Once, Vedinidhi asked Sage Vyasa, "Revered one, you have greatly benefited humanity. How should people express their devotion to you?" Sage Vyasa replied, "Merely worshiping or praising me does not bring me joy. I exist in all religions, traditions, and gurus. Therefore, honoring one's own guru is equivalent to honoring me. This worship should be performed on Ashadha Purnima". From that day onward, Ashadha Purnima has been celebrated as Vyas Purnima or Guru Purnima in reverence of gurus.

In southern India, there was a devout king named Sukeshi, who, through intense penance, pleased Lord Shankara. The king prayed for the sacred arrival of the Ganga in the southern region as a holy pilgrimage site. Lord Shankara, granting his request, secretly revealed the arrival of the Ganga and provided a divine fruit as a symbol. He also showed a special method of worship for its consecration. This sacred fruit, a coconut, was filled with Ganga water and became a symbol of purity.
