A man was killed early this morning when a roof partially caved in at a warehouse in East Oakland. All lanes of 580 in Oakland remain closed at High Street where the rainwater just isn't draining from the freeway. Several areas throughout Santa Cruz County have been put under evacuation warnings and orders as the rain continues to pound the region. As predicted, a lot of the Sierra snow is turning to slush with this warmer storm that blew through and that could make driving even rougher once it freezes up again. State water officials are also working to make sure that more of that ground water is saved for the future. 

The astronomical telescopes at the top of Mount Hamilton have been snowed in for a couple of weeks now and that means the scientists who study the stars can't do their work. Bay Area transportation leaders are studying the idea of making every highway in the nine county region a toll road. There's a balance to be had in wine country, preserving agricultural land while still allowing growth of wine industry events.  The latest atmospheric river kept crews in the North Bay busy overnight in San Anselmo where the storm sent a tree onto a home. With the impending arrival of another atmospheric river, Governor Newsom has declared a state of emergency in 21 more counties including San Francisco, Napa, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz. The heavy accumulation of snow could create additional problems with this latest atmospheric rivers and the extent of those problems will depend on the elevation. Yosemite National Park remains closed as workers clear mountains of snow and reopen roads. The epic snowpack has already caused some damage.

Environmentalists are asking the state Water Board to overrule a decision to keep more water in reservoirs for farms and Southern California cities, claiming endangered fish need the water, and in this wet winter, there should be enough. Parkinson's disease is a neuro-degenerative disease that researchers are finding, with specific treatment, can be slowed down, stabilized, and in some cases, reversed. The treatment?  Exercise! 

New legislation introduced by California Assemblymember Phil Ting would regulate how law enforcement uses Facial Recognition Technology. Currently, there’s no state limitations in place. Daylight Saving Time arrives this weekend. And with it: sleep disorder.
