  • Dragon Fire: a bedtime story and meditation for kids
Dragon notices the forest animals shivering and uses dragon fire to create a cozy campfire outside of the cave for everyone to share.

    Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 6:17

    Narrator: Male
    Dragon Fire Excerpt:
Dragon smiled at the animals, and took a deep breath in and out, (deep breath). Gentle flames flickered out of Dragon’s mouth towards the twigs and leaves. The kindling began to glow as fire rose from them. Flames took off from the twigs running to the branches, and finally they began to settle on the logs. Crackling sounds filled the air as smoke floated up to the sky. The animals had seen the Dragon fire before but wondered what this was. Then they felt the warmth spilling out from the fire on the logs. They stopped huddling together. The raccoons left their partially made shelter and scampered over to the fire. They basked in the glow and held their hand out warming them. The bunnies quickly hopped over taking their place around the dancing fire, followed by the squirrels.
Today’s Meditation: Relax in the grass as you imagine sunlight warming you from head to toe.

  • The Sparkling Engine: a child’s mindful story and relaxation
Billy and Emily enjoy a walk down their favorite forest path with their dad. As they reach the train tracks the sparkling engine whirrs by.
Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new story “Doctor Mia” on Monday. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “The Sparkling Engine,” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday!
    Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 7:21

    Narrator: Male

    The Sparkling Engine Excerpt:
As they walked through the forest their dad pointed out the different animals and plants.  Billy and Emily saw squirrels, bunnies, turtles, robins, oak trees, and ferns.  Every once and a while, Billy checked to make sure his favorite green train engine was still in his pocket.

Soon the forest opened up to a sidewalk.  They followed the sidewalk back to the street and saw train tracks ahead!  Billy was excited! He might see a real live train!  Would it be anything like his favorite toy engine?  Emily beamed at her big brother.  She was thrilled to see the train tracks too.  Emily liked trains, just as much as her big brother.  “Shall we wait here a bit to see the train go by?”  Dad said, pointing to a bench.

    “Yes!” Billy and Emily exclaimed.
Today’s Meditation: Today, enjoy the feeling of your body relaxing into the warm sand on a sunny beach.

  • Doctor Mia: a kid’s bedtime, nap time story and relaxation
Today’s story was written to fulfill an Ahway Islander’s request for a story about a pediatrician. Mia and Max are feeling tired and stuffy today. Feeling worried mom and dad call the doctor.

    Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 7:46

    Narrator: Female
    Doctor Mia Excerpt:
Dad came into the room with a cheerful, “Good morning!” He took a look at his usually upbeat children, and saw they were slouched and bundled up. They both looked at him and replied, “good morning,” with a couple of weak smiles followed by a chorus of sneezing and coughing. Feeling a little worried, he walked over to Mia and gently felt her forehead. Then he put the back of his hand on Max’s forehead. Both kids felt hot.

Dad picked up his phone and began dialing. “Who are you calling?” Max asked.

“Your pediatrician.” Dad replied. “I think you are sick.”

“Oh no.” Mia said, eyes wide. “I don’t need the doctor I’m fine.” She stood up quickly, and then, feeling a little dizzy, sat right back down.

    “I’m fine too.” Max said.

Mom popped into the room and said, “You both need to go to the doctor. I’m calling your school to tell them you’re sick.”

  • Jungle Voyage: a relaxing meditation and bedtime story
Today, with the power of imagination, the kids take Chance the cardboard box on a jungle voyage. What animals will they see?

    Final 3 Dragon Breaths: 7:30

    Narrator: Male
    Jungle Voyage Excerpt:
With that the little girl piloted the cardboard box up off of the carpet. Chance hovered as their imaginations erased the ceiling. Then up, up, up they went, straight through the grey clouds without a drop of rain touching them. The girl watched for lush trees and plants through the openings in the clouds. Soon she saw something promising and piloted the cardboard helicopter down towards the ground.

As Chance descended through the tree canopy, he saw a river directly below him. As soon as the cardboard box touched the river the twinkling rotor retracted and Chance transformed into a boat. Now it was the boy’s turn to captain the ship. The boy steered the cardboard boat along the gently flowing river. He pointed out a large log floating in the river. As they moved closer to it, the boy noticed the log was smiling.

There were a lot of other kids at the park too, since it was such a nice day.  And so, Owen and Andy played on the slide, the swings, and the monkey bars. Then Andy noticed the other kids all seemed to be playing together.  “Hey Owen! I think everyone is playing hide and seek.  Do you want to see if they’ll let us play too?”  Andy said.

“That sounds like fun.”  Owen said, and the two boys walked over to the group of kids.

“Can we play too?”  Owen asked.

“Sure. We’re playing hide and seek.  I’m Luis.  What’s your name?” Luis asked.

“I’m Owen and this is Andy.”  Owen replied.

“OK, Owen and Andy, find a place to hide.”  Luis said with a smile.

    Splashes and Smiles Excerpt:
Wade wondered what would happen next.  Then the boy carried the raft right over to the water slide.  And this is what Wade was most worried about.  Up, up, up, they went.  The worried raft noticed all the twists and bends in the slide.  As they waited in line Wade took a deep dragon breath in and out (deep breath) and told himself everything would be fine.  After all, he had worried about both waterfalls on the lazy river, and both were completely safe, and a bit fun.  He liked hearing the boy laugh, and judging from the look on the boy’s face this slide would make him laugh a lot.  As a result, the raft was feeling much better as he reached the top of the slide. Now He knew everything would be fine.  They would follow the rules, and have fun.

The boy set the raft down at the top of the slide, sat on top, and waited for the lifeguard to say it was OK to go.  Then the little boy held on tight. Wade slid from side to side, back and forth, splashing through the water on the slide.  With each turn the raft glided up the side of the slide, and then back down.  The boy was laughing now.  Finally, they reached the straight  part of the slide, slipping down into the water. Wade landed with a splash!  The boy laughed and laughed, and the raft smiled.  It had been fun.  There was nothing to worry about.
