This week (while experimenting with a Sunday release) Kate takes on a type of influencer/coach she hasn’t specifically discussed yet; wellness influencers that make a living teaching people how to manifest their dream life (by way of having allegedly manifested theirs). This is a confusing conversation; Kate both wholeheartedly believes in impossible things happening that she can’t comprehend due to her own [manifest] density in understanding the vastness of the universe, yet also feels griped by influencers who exploit this concept’s supernatural classification to overpromise and overcharge for things they can’t deliver. From her confusing thoughts toward spirituality and new age wellness, to discussing the law of attraction and The Secret, to the alarming materialism of modern social media manifesters, to the mental health implications of the logic that “thoughts = reality,” to the troubling ways issues like fertility are targeted, to some reflections from Kate in wondering if she's manifested her career.... this topic is layered, to say the least. In this episode, Kate breaks down her fascination with reliving sorority recruitment via Tiktok, her confusion at where their accessories are from, reminisces about her own experience with raising her glass (then getting sent to standards), and discusses the part of it she hasn't covered enough: what this would look like if you weren't selected. Additionally, she dives into the lore of University of Alabama's "old row" vs. "new row" and the secret society called The Machine that is rumored to still wield a great deal of power, not only over student government, but also local & state political elections. Then, Kate does a snorkel through the Grammy nominee CDs from '96 and '98 and forgets why, but pretty sure Billie Eilish's latest bridge has something to do with it.
