“Before you pay for your sins, you’ll watch this!”

There’s no escape from Starcrash as the distinguished professors go back for one more helping of sci-fi insanity, subjecting themselves to Starcrash 2, the completely unauthorized Italian knock-off sequel that, appropriate to type, has absolutely nothing to do with Starcrash except for ripping off some of its space footage in true Battle Beyond the Stars-style. Topics include the tradition of the Italian sequel, the lack of motivation of immortal characters, a comparison with Hercules movies, yet another Italian movie theme song about the magic of being touched, speculation that the heroes might be Acton’s species, weird Biblical references, the multiple attempts by the residents of Earth to murder the heroes, a review of ridiculous space-babble dialogue, comparisons with classic Star Trek, other unaddressed deep questions this movie doesn’t answer, comparison with failed 80s musical The Apple, compulsory heterosexuality, and our reflections back on Season 1.

Your favorite village idiot and the two runners-up decide to cover the entire Deathstalker franchise in one sitting, and not even the return of Jim Wynorski’s work can save them. The distinguished Space Brothers face off against their greatest challenge – the pile of galactic excrement called Galaxy Lords. Topics include yet another gratuitous reference to Back to the Future, trying to figure out exactly what GL is paying homage to, Goethe’s rules of criticism, repeated violations of the conventions of filmmaking, contrasts with Spaceballs and Galaxina, making fun of the wrong movies, bad beards, finding the right mix of goofiness and seriousness, off-the-rack women’s wear from Kohl’s, CGI/ greenscreen successes and failures, the misguided internet community dedicated to this movie, comparison with The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra, the importance of lighting in low budget filmmaking, the flying treadmills, “HISTORY BLAST!”, and our bold prediction that the filmmakers’ next project – a martial arts parody – will contain a character with “hilarious” bad dubbing.

The distinguished professors discuss Space Raiders, another Roger Corman production that rips off space footage (and theme music) from the apparently immortal Battle Beyond the Stars. Topics include the failure of the space sex worker sight gag, the space western as a genre, viewer identification with the kid and this movie’s intended audience, comparisons to Cloak and Dagger, the need for more set-up, the acid-spewing bug gag’s violation of the Prime Directive, the crew’s boobtacular ship stolen from BBtS, lots of dramatic shooting and dramatic dying, the kid’s beer, the jokey announcements before the opening bloodbath, missed opportunities for railing kills, Raising Arizona meets Home Alone in space, the pointlessness of the crews’ deaths, that heroic extra trying to build a house of cards, the awesomeness of Thom Christopher/Flightplan, flashing lights and toggle switches, and why you should always go with strangers from space.

Well, we lost the recording of our episode where we talked about The New Barbarians/ Warriors of the Wasteland, and we didn’t like it enough to re-record it, so now the distinguished professors move on to discuss British stage play-to-film adaption Devil Girl from Mars! Topics include the problems of converting a play to a movie, Dr. Berres’s pledge to play Nyah (PVC outfit and all) should we do a stage version of the movie at our college, the movie’s anti-feminist message, the failed attempt at titillation/ sexploitation, constant reminders that the scientist is a scientist, the sacrifice of the escaped jailbird boyfriend and the failure of the overly loud hero, the unimpressive power of another world, Nyah’s constant use of the surprise curtain and remarkably unsexy PVC outfit, a comparison with Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, the first of many references to Back to the Future, using radio as a plot device, filmdom’s worst robot, the Velma/Daphne dynamic, that kid in 1950s and 1960s movies that befriends the monster, and the role of this movie’s crappiness in inspiring Octavia Butler to take up science fiction writing.
