I’ve made the excuses. Maybe you have too?
All the reasons why I just can’t keep that commitment. Maybe even in the name of “simplicity” or “sanity”
And didn’t Bob Goff tell us in his book “Love Does” that we should quit one thing each week?
I’m all for simplifying your life and using your “best yes”. But I do wonder if sometimes my quitting is more a reflection of not wanting to fail in my own strength. It’s not fear of failure cuz I’d be okay to fail if you didn’t see. It’s really fear of what you’d think of me if you saw me fail. So I’d better quit before there’s any chance we go down that road.
Well, this week’s guest gets what I’m talking about. Nicki Koziarz vulnerably shares her quitting challenges from boot camp to buying a full-fledged farm. Crowning herself “Quitzilla”.
In her latest book, “5 Habits of a Woman Who Doesn’t Quit”, Nicki uses the story of Ruth from the Bible to remind us that God has plans to use us. Even in sticking with the smallest commitments. Ruth’s “stickiness” to Naomi led to a generational shift and ultimately the birth of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. Her legacy came because she didn’t quit.
I don’t know if you consider yourself a “quitter”. When the book arrived, I figured it could be could for someone else, but not me. Wouldn’t you know not two hours later my mind considered quitting. In that moment I surrendered to my feelings instead of the hardness of refinement.
Nicki is challenging us to push through the hard to get to the great God has for us. Because. . .
90% of people who feel called to do something for God, never see it all the way through to completion.(Andy Stanley)
The key is keeping an ear to God. Moving when He says “go” and stopping when He says “stop”. He’s given you the Spirit to guide you. Trust Him over your feelings.
While you listen to this episode I think it would be helpful to think of one area of your life you have considered quitting. And contemplate all the positive manifestations if you stick with it until God calls you to move on.
