Genetic engineering opens up a lot of possibilities. What if you didn't have to grow old? Where would Beyond Retirement be, if nobody ever got to retirement?
Mark Ryall's novel, Age-Decoded, deals with a world where this is the case.
Step into the future... check it out!
Mark Ryall taught economics and mathematics for over two decades and coaches cross-country running, a sport which he feels improves mental and physical strength and promotes teamwork and mutual support. His education includes BSc (University of Waterloo), MBA (York University), and PhD (University of Toronto, Education).
Mark also competes in triathlons and represented Canada in the 2019 World Age-Group Championships in Lausanne, Switzerland. He enjoys acrylic art, painting historic structures, landscapes, and sports portraits.
The speculative fiction Age-Decoded is Mark’s first novel. He wrote the first draft about ten years ago to educate himself and the world about the imminent tsunami of genetic engineering. CRISPR-like technology will impact humans in physical and psychological ways, thus fundamentally affecting what it means to be human. The story peers 100-200 years into the future, allowing the reader to critically imagine and feel this new scientific frontier.
Mark talks about how retirement is a great time of life - where you can do whatever you want - and it's important to make the most of it. He encourages listeners to continue to grow and learn as they age; growing older is a privilege not afforded to everyone.

Knowing what to say when you're called upon to give a retirement speech (or any toast or speech) is a big deal - you don't want to bore people and you don't want to take focus away from the guest of honour if it's not you.
Eddie talks about the key elements of a good toast and how to pull them together to ensure that your audience is enthralled by what you say. He talks about how to prepare for the toast or speech properly and how to present it well.
We've all thought about it - what our "dream life" would consist of. Why just dream? You can actually CREATE your dream life, if you want to. So sit down with a pen and some paper and start dreaming - where do you want to live, what do you want to do? Take the time to really make the dream come to life!
