    अर्जुन उवाच |
    ज्यायसी चेत्कर्मणस्ते मता बुद्धिर्जनार्दन |
    तत्किं कर्मणि घोरे मां नियोजयसि केशव || 1||
    arjuna uvācha
    jyāyasī chet karmaṇas te matā buddhir janārdana
    tat kiṁ karmaṇi ghore māṁ niyojayasi keśhava
    🔴 Arjuna said:
    O Krsna! If your view is that knowledge is superior to work, why do you bid me undertake this fearful work of war?
    🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 3, Verse 2:
    व्यामिश्रेणेव वाक्येन बुद्धिं मोहयसीव मे |
    तदेकं वद निश्चित्य येन श्रेयोऽहमाप्नुयाम् || 2||

    tad ekaṁ vada niśhchitya yena śhreyo ’ham āpnuyām
    🔴 By words that seem confused, You bewilder my intelligence as it were. Therefore set forth one sure course by which I may attain the highest good.
    🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 3, Verse 3:
    śhrī bhagavān uvācha
    loke ’smin dvi-vidhā niṣhṭhā purā proktā mayānagha
    jñāna-yogena sāṅkhyānāṁ karma-yogena yoginām
    🔴 The Blessed Lord said:
    O sinless one! Two kinds of disciplines in this world were set forth by Me in times of yore - for the Samkhyas the discipline of knowledge, and for the Yogins, that of works.

  • 26. Bhagavad Gita l Chapter 2 Verses 70-72 l Swami Sarvapriyananda
    Swami Sarvapriyananda teaches Verses 70-72 from the second chapter of the Bhagavad Gita. This series of talks unfolds the highest truths of Vedanta through the study of "The song of God".
    🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 2, Verse 70:
    आपूर्यमाणमचलप्रतिष्ठं
    समुद्रमाप: प्रविशन्ति यद्वत् |
    तद्वत्कामा यं प्रविशन्ति सर्वे
    स शान्तिमाप्नोति न कामकामी || 70||
    āpūryamāṇam achala-pratiṣhṭhaṁ
    samudram āpaḥ praviśhanti yadvat
    tadvat kāmā yaṁ praviśhanti sarve
    sa śhāntim āpnoti na kāma-kāmī
    🔴 He wins peace into whose mind objects of desiresenter as waters flow into a full and stable sea that is being filled; and not he who yearns after objects of desire.
    🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 2, Verse 71:
    विहाय कामान्य: सर्वान्पुमांश्चरति नि:स्पृह: |
    निर्ममो निरहङ्कार: स शान्तिमधिगच्छति || 71||
    vihāya kāmān yaḥ sarvān pumānśh charati niḥspṛihaḥ
    nirmamo nirahankāraḥ sa śhāntim adhigachchhati
    🔴 The man who, giving up all objects of desires, moves about seeking nothing, and rid of all sense of 'mine' and 'I', wins peace.
    🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 2, Verse 72:
    एषा ब्राह्मी स्थिति: पार्थ नैनां प्राप्य विमुह्यति |
    स्थित्वास्यामन्तकालेऽपि ब्रह्मनिर्वाणमृच्छति || 72||
    eṣhā brāhmī sthitiḥ pārtha naināṁ prāpya vimuhyati
    sthitvāsyām anta-kāle ’pi brahma-nirvāṇam ṛichchhati
    🔴 This is the status of Brahman, Arjuna!; attaining it, none gets deluded (any more). Abiding in it, at least at the hour of death, one gains super-consciousness in Brahman.

    आत्मवश्यैर्विधेयात्मा प्रसादमधिगच्छति || 64||
    rāga-dveṣha-viyuktais tu viṣhayān indriyaiśh charan
    ātma-vaśhyair-vidheyātmā prasādam adhigachchhati
    🔴 Approaching objects with senses free from attachment and aversion, and controlled by the mind, the man who has mastered his mind wins serenity.
    🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 2, Verse 65:
    प्रसादे सर्वदु:खानां हानिरस्योपजायते |
    प्रसन्नचेतसो ह्याशु बुद्धि: पर्यवतिष्ठते || 65||
    prasāde sarva-duḥkhānāṁ hānir asyopajāyate
    prasanna-chetaso hyāśhu buddhiḥ paryavatiṣhṭhate
    🔴 Serenity won, sufferings come to an end; the reason of that man, whose mind is serene, soon becomes steadfast.
    🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 2, Verse 66:
    नास्ति बुद्धिरयुक्तस्य न चायुक्तस्य भावना |
    न चाभावयत: शान्तिरशान्तस्य कुत: सुखम् || 66||
    nāsti buddhir-ayuktasya na chāyuktasya bhāvanā
    na chābhāvayataḥ śhāntir aśhāntasya kutaḥ sukham
    🔴 The unintegrated mind has no wisdom; nor can such a person have yearning (for Self-knowledge). Without such yearning, no peace (is possible). For one lacking peace, how can there be happiness?

    विषया विनिवर्तन्ते निराहारस्य देहिन: |
    रसवर्जं रसोऽप्यस्य परं दृष्ट्वा निवर्तते || 59||
    viṣhayā vinivartante nirāhārasya dehinaḥ
    rasa-varjaṁ raso ’pyasya paraṁ dṛiṣhṭvā nivartate
    🔴 Objects, but not the taste for them, fall off as regards the man who feeds not on them. When he intuits the supreme (Reality), even this taste wanes.
    🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 2, Verse 60:
    यततो ह्यपि कौन्तेय पुरुषस्य विपश्चित: |
    इन्द्रियाणि प्रमाथीनि हरन्ति प्रसभं मन: || 60||
    yatato hyapi kaunteya puruṣhasya vipaśhchitaḥ
    indriyāṇi pramāthīni haranti prasabhaṁ manaḥ
    🔴 The impetuous senses, Arjuna! of even a learned man who strives, forcibly drive the mind astray.
    🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 2, Verse 61:
    तानि सर्वाणि संयम्य युक्त आसीत मत्पर: |
    वशे हि यस्येन्द्रियाणि तस्य प्रज्ञा प्रतिष्ठिता || 61||
    tāni sarvāṇi sanyamya yukta āsīta mat-paraḥ
    vaśhe hi yasyendriyāṇi tasya prajñā pratiṣhṭhitā
    🔴 Controlling them all, one should sit integrated, deeming Me supreme. Stable is his wisdom who has brought his senses under control.
    🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 2, Verse 62:
    ध्यायतो विषयान्पुंस: सङ्गस्तेषूपजायते |
    सङ्गात्सञ्जायते काम: कामात्क्रोधोऽभिजायते || 62||
    dhyāyato viṣhayān puṁsaḥ saṅgas teṣhūpajāyate
    saṅgāt sañjāyate kāmaḥ kāmāt krodho ’bhijāyate
    🔴 Attachment to objects is born when one ponders on them. Of attachment is born desire, and of desire, wrath.
    🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 2, Verse 63:
    क्रोधाद्भवति सम्मोह: सम्मोहात्स्मृतिविभ्रम: |
    स्मृतिभ्रंशाद् बुद्धिनाशो बुद्धिनाशात्प्रणश्यति || 63||
    krodhād bhavati sammohaḥ sammohāt smṛiti-vibhramaḥ
    smṛiti-bhranśhād buddhi-nāśho buddhi-nāśhāt praṇaśhyati
    🔴 From wrath arises delusion; from delusion, failure of memory. Due to this latter, intelligence perishes, and from its loss total destruction ensues.

    🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 2, Verse 48:
    योगस्थ: कुरु कर्माणि सङ्गं त्यक्त्वा धनञ्जय |
    सिद्ध्यसिद्ध्यो: समो भूत्वा समत्वं योग उच्यते || 48||
    yoga-sthaḥ kuru karmāṇi saṅgaṁ tyaktvā dhanañjaya
    siddhy-asiddhyoḥ samo bhūtvā samatvaṁ yoga uchyate
    🪔Giving up attachment and established in Yoga, with evenness of mind in success and failure, perform works, O Arjuna. This evenness is Yoga.
    🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 2, Verse 49:
    दूरेण ह्यवरं कर्म बुद्धियोगाद्धनञ्जय |
    बुद्धौ शरणमन्विच्छ कृपणा: फलहेतव: || 49||
    dūreṇa hy-avaraṁ karma buddhi-yogād dhanañjaya
    buddhau śharaṇam anvichchha kṛipaṇāḥ phala-hetavaḥ
    🪔Work impelled by the desire for the fruit is indeed far inferior, evenness of mind being far above it. O Arjuna! Take refuge in the evenness of intelligence. Pitiful are those impelled by the desire for the fruits of works.
    🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 2, Verse 50:
    बुद्धियुक्तो जहातीह उभे सुकृतदुष्कृते |
    तस्माद्योगाय युज्यस्व योग: कर्मसु कौशलम् || 50||
    buddhi-yukto jahātīha ubhe sukṛita-duṣhkṛite
    tasmād yogāya yujyasva yogaḥ karmasu kauśhalam
    🪔With the intelligence of evenness one discards (in this world) both good and evil works (i.e the merits and demerits of works). Therefore strive to secure this Yoga; Yoga is skill in works.
    🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 2, Verse 51:
    कर्मजं बुद्धियुक्ता हि फलं त्यक्त्वा मनीषिण: |
    जन्मबन्धविनिर्मुक्ता: पदं गच्छन्त्यनामयम् || 51||
    karma-jaṁ buddhi-yuktā hi phalaṁ tyaktvā manīṣhiṇaḥ
    janma-bandha-vinirmuktāḥ padaṁ gachchhanty-anāmayam
    🪔Wise men, united with the intelligence of evenness, discard, indeed, the fruits of works; they are liberated from the bondage of birth and attain the status which is free from all sufferings.
